Noob questions about BIOS settings....

post #1 of 6
Thread Starter
I have read the ultimate OC guide and feel pretty good I understand most of it. Going from the guide to my BIOS things start to fall apart.

First off, names of features I will need to adjust are not the same.

Is the LDT bus the same as HT? It can be set to auto, 200, 400, 600, 800 MHZ. Should I set it to 800 so I stay below 1000 MHZ?

I have the option to autodetect the PCI clock. Should I disable that option. Related to that (I think it is related) I can select agp/pci clocks: 66/33, 75.4/37.7, 88.0/44.0 or I can disable the async agp/pci. Again, is it better to lock them to a specific value?

Lastly, the CPU clock can be adjusted between 200 and 230. This is the FSB speed right?

I am not feeling too bright right now. But I sure can reinstall windows quicker than before. Thanks for any help.

Yes the HTT (HT) or LDT are they the same term for the memory copntrolers multiplyer.
Default is 1000 or 200x5, most BIOS use the 5x, 4x, 3,x... so when it states ...
1000 = 5x
800 = 4x
600 = 3x

Keep he overall @ or below 1000 actual MHz

Example, you set the CPU to run @ 250 for a perfect 1000 you need the "800" or 4x. Above 250 MHz drop to "600" or 3x.

Set PCI/AGP to 33/66!
Or AGP/PCI to 66/33 in your case.

Don't you just hate that they dont use all the same terma in the BIOS!

Opps, forgot to comment on the "FSB" which is an antiquated term from the Socket A days eventhough some manufactures still use it.
Yes, consider the FSB to be the CPU's bus speed which is 200MHz @ defult

Aslo check out the below link, could prove to be very helpful to you on your OCing

Thanks Duke....

I was afraid all of the auto settings were what was killing me. Just wish going too far didn't mean corrupting the OS every time. Gonna give it another shot without the auto settings.
