Win XP: How much energy does the "Standby"-mode conserve and how to get the max. out of it?

When I put the PC in Standby instead of shutting it off, by how much (%) does it lower the energy usage? Also, are there ways to make the Standby mode more efficient? At the moment the fans stop turning and the HDDs seem to stop spinning.

Thanks

Use Hibernate option instead, although system resume takes a little longer!

What is the difference of Hibernate? Can I restart Windows equally easily with just hitting the "Power" button? And How do I start the Hibernate mode?

I have an automatic shut down timer tool installed, that allows me to select Hibernate, but via the windows interface I have found solely the Standby option so far.

Yes, just resume using the power button.

Robbed from the web......

To show the Hibernate option under shutdown, select Start | Control Panel, and select the Performance and Maintenance icon.
Select the Power Options icon under "or pick a Control Panel Icon."
Select the Hibernate tab, and click on the Enable Hibernation box.
If Hibernate still doesn't appear, it may be because your PC is fairly new and supports the Stand By low-power shut-down option.
To make Hibernate appear in the Turn Off Your Computer dialogue, simply hold down the Shift key and Stand By will switch to Hibernate.
You need to hold down the Shift key to see and use the Hibernate shut-down option
