But the thing is--what principle is being stood up for? So there's no point to talk to a mothership to launch and play a SP you paid for--I agree. But that's not a principle. A principle would be standing up against a connection being used under the guise of "DRM" (for lack of a better word), but is actually being used to steal your data/info under subterfuge, or some other ulterior motive. A principle would be standing up against the harm that something brings. This doesn't bring harm.
Don't get me wrong, I'm mostly playing devil's advocate--I'd be happy to not have some sort of thing like this, but having it doesn't really affect anyone, or doesn't negatively impact anyone.

I play devils advocate all the time. It's fun as hell on OCN tongue.gif.

Now to the debate:
Quote:
Principle:
A fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behavior or for a chain of reasoning.

tongue.gif.

There's negative impact, it's just those people that it does negatively impact can't be here to let us know how it impacts them.

Now about the data mining stuff:

Bugs the hell out of me. I stand against that on principle too tongue.gif.

LOL, I guess that's a good point. It does address only users that have consistent or easy access to the internet.

I wonder how many people there are who fall into that category and also want to play games?

Well. If we work out the correct people per capita in rural regions, then cross reference coverage maps with reports of actual coverage... then carry the 2.... dive by 0000000.61meters....include Sat internet users....

and we come out with a guestimation of about %10-20.

tongue.gif.

I'm sure there is figures out there done by the US gov (speaking locally have no idea about the world outside) about internet infrastructure and those that do not have have access vs. those with spotty access, but no time to google-fu. biggrin.gif

Perchance he is stuck in the mortuary itself, maybe he's a ghost and his work is identifying and saving the souls trapped with him?

That would explain why there's no internet service where he's working.

Ghosts dont need network connectivity.

Am I missing something here? I have no idea where this offline mode is for origin. Unless you're talking about being offline to friends. Last I remembered you still need internet connection to login to Origin, apposed to steams Offline mode. So I think its still the same formula as Origin=internet. Asides from the fact you can disconnect after loging in, which is already present in most distributers.

Have you actually tried/conducted the experiment that took you to that conclusion or are you just guessing based upon an uproven theory?

You dont need internet connectivity to log in to Origin. Just try it.

It just takes you straight to your library and tells you it's in offline mode because it cant connect to the net.

Origin != Internet.

Origin = Origin.

Internet = Internet.

Origin = Available offline

Internet != Unavailable offline

Therefore, we have proven the statement that Origin != Internet.

I can login to Origin without an internet connection... so you don't need an internet connection. I can disconnect from the internet and still use games through Origin too. As for Steam if I get suddenly disconnected I can still play installed games... usually, but if I were to open Steam without any connection it won't allow me to sign-in to access my library.

I actually have. I had the internet down for a few days. Tried to play amalur, started up origin "cannot conenct to server" then gives me invalid password error. Fair enough, went to the directory opened up amalur origin boots up "cannot connect to server" same thing invalid password error. I think thats enough theory testing.
