AMD Phenom II X6 1100T vs. Intel Core it 2500k?

Thread Starter
Which are better among the two in overall? Please tell me. I know intel can do overclocking and such things. They said 2500k can whack phenom but tell me the advantages and disadvantages of each other. Like the power consumption, gaming performance, etc. google.gif

A 2500K would mince an X6 for gaming, for rendering, encoding etc I think clock for clock they would be equal-ish

AMD win
just cheaper biggrin.gif and gaming performance ? it mainly to do with the graphics card tongue.gif ( e.g. if you have a 560ti and upgrade to a 680, you will see a major differnce in FPS )

I just had to say, I love your gif avatar...made me rofl so hard laughingsmiley.gif

On topic though, I would say 2500k. Overall, but the phenom is a cheaper cheap with good performance.

If you overclock the 2500K enough it will win in all categories, even the heavily threaded applications.

If you want to spend a bit more on the computer, I would go intel. I am probably going to be making the switch soon. Both seem to be good overclockers. You can't go wrong with either imo, but I would go intel.

you never invest on old tech if you can afford the new, especially if the latter proves more promising.

Not entirely true, I have a single GTX560ti, and used to have amd phenom II x6-based system (was testing at both 2,8 and 3,5ghz) and upgraded to i5 2500k.

On some games I noticed a huge difference (crysis 1 and GTA IV) and on some others I got a decent boost (BF3 MP, stalker: COP). However, games like crysis 2,metro2033,bad company2,far cry2 play exctatly same on both systems, but conclusion is, i5 2500k is much better in gaming than phenom II x6, even when using a single mid-range GPU.

Oh and here to give you an idea of how they perform in multithreaded things..

If you OC them both to the absolute max(for the most part) the 2500K typically does win, and here are is a Cinebench(rendering benchmark/heavily threaded) of both my personal 1090T and my i5-2500K at their max overclocks. The 2500K takes the win by a little bit. In gaming it's no contest, 2500K for sure.

285

i5-2500K @ 5 GHz:
467
