Well, first of all, when it comes time to put the heatsink on the IHS, you must remove the plastic cover from the heatsink contact face. Ideally you will have metal-to-metal contact, with only a little bit of TIM to fill in the grooves.

Next: your first pic seems to show the right screw on the bracket is shorter than the other. Remove the bracket and carefully measure the length of those screws.

Finally, if the screws are the same length and you have them metal to metal, make sure both screws are making contact with their opposite numbers. Then barely start one screw, and barely start the next. In sequence, do a half--turn to start, then half- to whole turns until the screws come to the end of their play. Then you're done.

smile.gif I did take the plastic cover off, lol. I know you need to check these things cause sometimes it is something as blatantly simple. Shall measure them and let you know smile.gif

Have had a close look at the brackets and one stud is very slightly shorter(has the point more tapered than the other). But that doesn't seem to be the problem. The problem is the same screw does not screw onto either bracket, as it does not make contact with either stud

there is a plastic spacer that goes in between the mobo and cross-bracket. in Step 4 Installing the Mounting Bars.
install the plastic spacer on each mounting stud. i don't see that in the first picture. should be a black plastic spacer.

There is no plastic spacer in the kit I have, n no mention of it in the instructions http://www.noctua.at/pdf/manuals/noctua_nh_d14_se2011_manual_en.pdf smile.gif
post #18 of 20
thats the problem... the cross-bars are mounted to low not allowing the proper height and
pressure..

Step 4 installing four plastic spacers on each mounting screw..
this is my NH-D14 install and at each corner there was a black spacer to make
the install height correct.

According to Noctua there are no spacers on the SE2011 version of the NH-D14, please see http://www.noctua.at/pdf/manuals/noctua_nh_d14_se2011_manual_en.pdf

my bad... didnt know or notice it was LGA 2011. i see the quad RAM slots now..
still sounds like the spacing from the mobo to cross-bar is off..
on the SE 2011 kits i installed the four stand-offs and then cross-bars.. simple
tension, untill i tighten the hold-down screws.
