BFG 7800 GS First overclock - wow. - Page 2

The bridge chip doesn't need much, a DIY ramsink works fine. I can't remember where I saw it, let me go looking... nothing. I think it was a Maze4 modded though. But I can't find it!

Overclockability of any card is a crapshoot. Depending on where the chip sits in the process variation spectrum.

So, in order to overlock, you need some software. I use rivatuner. Its free and it works great. It can also be used to control fan speed for example. Mine has been running at 500Mhz since I bought it, but the memory bus was not as overclockable.

Get the software and play around with it (changing one thing at a time in small increments) and running say 3DMark SW to see if you get artefacts. If you get overheating or artefacts, tune it back down.

You're welcome. Let us know how your OC goes.

Cheers about the car. Its definitely a nice machine. I have that "overclocked" too - aka running above regular boost levels with a "stage1" tune.

keep pushing it, my 7800GS would hit 550/1600

i just got my 7900GT and new motherboard, and at stock it beats the hell outa my 7800GS. And yes you can put a zahlman cooler on a 7800GS with a homemade heatsink for the HSI bridge chip. Thats the only part the zahlman wont cover. So you can make a lowprofile heatsink for the hsi chip. I had mine modded with a athlon xp 3000+ Heatsink on the core and homemade heatsink on the bridge chip. Worked wonders.

And I thought I was lucky to get a Max OC of 486/1410! 460/1350 is what I use everyday though.
