You screw the "gold things" into the case. Then the mobo rests on top of them.

Make sure you align them with the holes on your mobo.

Before.

The stand-offs go between the case and the motherboard so the motherboard doesn't short out.

They really don't seem to fit. Do I then screw on the black screws after that? Which socket do I install the silver stand off screw?
You use the gold ones for the case, the motherboard then sits on top of them. You then use the silver ones to hold the motherboard in.

I think I understand. I'll try again then tell you if it worked.

Yes, make sure you put them in before unlike I did. Forgot to put the ''gold things'' (runners) in before I fitted my motherboard and almost fried it. Lucky for me my mobo had small metal protection-like things around the holes.

A 5mm Nutdriver is the proper tool for installing motherboard standoffs. If you have a 5mm socket with a 1/4 inch ratchet you could use a long extender and use that as well. Otherwise just twist them in by hand and use pliers of some sort to tighten. Remember to tighten them good so they don't unscrew when you loosen the motherboard screws when replacing boards.
