The first time I played AC1 was on PC. I loved it. The controls were easy and fun.
Next up. I only had my IGP HD4200 for AC2 so I got it for xbox 360. I played for about 15 minutes. I then opened my xbox, took the disc, put it in the case, and it sat their, until someone on ebay bought it from me. Then it was in the mail and gone. I lost $14 on that purchase. The controls were terribad, extremely terribad.
The main reason? Automatic Camera angles. The games like "go race this guy" so I take off to the side of the building, start jumping and I'm moving in a straight line. Now the game decides it wants to change my view, about 45 degrees or more to the left. My straight movement now automatically becomes jumping off to the side and dying. This can usually be fixed with a bit of time getting used to the controls and how the camera reacts, but when it changes position violently at the split second your about to take a jump and it causes you to lose the race 20 times or die a bunch for no reason, you have an unfinished product you simply want to throw out the doors and make money off of.
I did get the game back for 360 some time later, as I couldn't afford a GPU like I wanted, and really wanted to play the game. I still have not beaten it, I simply can't sit down playing it long enough without getting so furious I want to kisk my xbox through the wall and shatter the game disc into millions of pieces.... I'm sure in a few months I'll get past my frustration and finish the game...
Yeah right, the 360 version is gone again as I now have a new HD6850, so I'll be ditching the remote for the actually useable controls of a KB and mouse. Sad thing though, if they don't support kb+mouse, it means I simply will NEVER get to finish the series, that simple. If I want to use a controller I'll turn on the console.
If your a game dev, or a publisher and your thinking of FORCING gamers to use controller only on a PC title, you should not have made it through your initial interview. (obviously for the psycho's who argue every point any1 makes, there are a few decent games that require a controller for PC. The vast majority however, is fail.
Theres a reason why MS dropped support for PC vs Xbox from the get go, xbox users would likely be quitting gaming and selling their xbox's in frustration. Theres simply no contest here.
So, they got me hooked only to piss me off. I was about to buy all the other AC titles on PC soon, but this has made me change my mind. As a consumer I can only speak with my wallet. So no more AC for me I guess. (unless of coarse, they smarten up and allow proper controls)
