I have no sympathy for employees like the one that tricked me into buying their computer. They purposely sold me a computer that had much less HDD space than it was suppose to be. When I asked why, they told me that it was used as a system reserve...100GB? Seriously?! To add salt to injuries, I later found out that I overpaid $150 more than it is online. That was the last time I dealt with Best Buy...5 years ago! The only thing that BB did for me was making me learn more about computer on my own.

i worked at best buy for 4 years....in the beginning of my time there (2004) I loved it. I started out in the media department and quickly became good friends with the computer guys due to my increasing knowledge of computers. They loved me, and after a year i moved over to the PC group...then it started to go down hill. Soon our GM left and another game came...who was then fired because they found out he was stealing from the store (on a daily basis...) and then they got a temp GM. So the moral of the store was dropping fast, ontop of that BB "brilliant" selling strats where just insulting. They began forcing customers to buy thing sthey didnt need...at all......My numbers where highest in the department and second in the stroe for 3 years and i didnt pressure or push people into buying stuff. If they wanted it, i got it for them...thats all. An example of BB turning into a "they are stupid, we know everything" mindset was one day an engineer from the local university came in (i knew him because we took classes together in the past) and was BSing with me about routers and decided to buy his wife a laptop. The man was extremely intelligent and new as much as i did if not more. He asked some questions and after a few minutes he picked one HE wanted. When we got up to the counter he was so grateful for me not pressuring him about the GEEKSQUAD service or any of the other garbage that he contacted the corporate office and gave me a good word. A few weeks later he purchased like...80-100k worth of computer stuff through our BB for Business group and i was awarded a 200 dollar gift card smile.gif.

All in all BB is a joke anymore...i had to get out of that mess. They were doing terrible things to customers (the majority of them anyways). Not to say that all customers know about PC's...of course not, but what BB does is not right. Talking to them like they are morons or "training" people that dont know anything about PC's into "selling" rather then knowledge is a joke. I only go to BB so that i can look at stuff i want then buy it online for 40% cheaper...lol

Best Buy really sucked, but this is going to be a trend. Amazon won't be content til they are the only company that sells anything other than food. Fry's, Microcenter, Valve, Newegg, Netflix... watch out! The river is coming for you.

One of the reasons I stopped bothering with Bestbuy was most of the time if you look a product up on their website, you go into the store and they don't even honor their own online price. I did like them in the early 2000's, but there was CompUSA around and prices seemed to be competitive.

I'm glad I have a Microcenter in my area, else I'd be force to mail order everything.

I had a pretty horrible encounter a couple of weeks ago when I went to a local BB to pick up the new Samsung Tab. I could have ordered it online but wanted it ASAP. After spending nearly an hour in the store being ignored I left, called the store manager (was on hold for 18 minutes to get through to him) and provided some very choice commentary.

The irony was, I went in at about 2pm in the afternoon and there were about a total of 6 customers in the store and 10 employees. They still found a way to ignore me for almost a full hour.

I bought it from Amazon for $22 less (with free shipping to my door).

I try to support local businesses but seriously what is wrong with these people?

What exactly differentiates a retailer from an e-tailer? Customer service and being able to get it on the spot.

The only thing I buy from Best Buy or Future Shop is TV's. They are too big to buy online, I like to see what I am getting, and I can return it if I don't like it.

Best Buy has to have been one of the worst places to buy anything, in any store. I only buy TVs and console video games. Once in a while I'll buy a CD or movie from them. Their computer department is a joke, and every time I go into one of these, I feel like the employees are looking at me the wrong way.
