[CNet] Best Buy feels Amazon squeeze, to close 50 big-box stores - Page 17

A. Mark-ups.

B. Terrible customer service. Reps typically have little knowledge of the things they are selling.

C. Out of date products. Every time I walk into BB and go to the PC hardware section there are 9800GT's and older and yet still no newer tech.

I once went to buy the last "in stock" TV I wanted.

They said I couldn't have it. Because they need one in stock...so that they wouldn't be out of stock.

Just...mull that over in your head there. They basically didn't want to put a Out of Stock sign up, so they won't sell the last one, because they'd lose business. So basically, they lie to you to go down there and try to get you to buy other stuff.

Screw Best Buy.

I used to buy monitors from there but ever since i started moving towards all the high end products i drifted away from best buy. I still have a $100.00 gift card from christmas of 2010!!! there is nothing i really want from there.

compusa, tigerdirect, circuit city are all 3 the same thing. they use 3 diff names but their retail stores are all compusa now.

Screw Best Buy.

Well, being a BB employee(just so happen to work as a tablet specialist) and I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt that if you was in MY store, this would have not happened. I would sell the display model to you if you wanted it badly enough(with discounts).

I can understand your frustration and Im certainly not trying to discredit your argument but..........Unless this happened 10+ years ago I would be willing to bet one of my own LIMBS that this would not happen. Trust me, my store, EVERY BB store feels amazons squeeze, we are willing to do just about ANYTHING to get someone to buy with us.

Something else to consider, I saw many complaints that BB over charges on there laptops, well let me explain how the laptops are priced at BB. This may seem insane in the membrane to some, but the prices are actually dictated and controlled by the laptop manufacturer. And not only that, but BB actually LOSES money on the lower end laptops(200-500ish range). I will agree that even I buy from amazon mostly, even over my employee discount and we are severely handicapped by our limited physical store sizes, my store for example can only carry about 20 models at max at any one time. And then the laptops we get are chosen by what sells the most.

I like some of the things best buy has like the certificates for buying so many things there and 2 times i went in to buy plasma tv and they matched a price from another site. I do agree some things are way overpriced but for those things i just order from amazon.

They just need to go back to screwing over their customers with false deals and false advertising. It worked for the past 10 years, didn't it? I don't know what it is but some people just like to be screwed over, they're like battered wives. The more you smack them around; the more they come back and defend their abuse.

This happened Christmas 2011.

And no, it wasn't a floor model. It was just the last model in stock.

I asked the guy then why no one told me this on the phone and they said it's not to discourage customers to come down, and that maybe they'll buy something else while they are there.

Scum bag business tactics.
