[CNet] Best Buy feels Amazon squeeze, to close 50 big-box stores - Page 18

I rememeber watching the Big Box documentary on CNBC about Best Buy. The CEO was so confident that he could compete with online retailers. The whole time I was like LOL, NO.

An analyst wrote an article describing the fall of Best Buy. Basically they have HUGE expenses towards employee payroll and real estate, which adds to their mark-ups. E-tailers do not have to deal with either of these, which is why they're able to offer prices that are always at least 10-15% lower.

---

I purchase all of my external hard drives at Best Buy when they go on sale. I got a Western Digital 2TB external for $89.99 there in September. Recently they had a 3-week sale on Western Digital 3TB USB 3.0 for $169.99. This sale beat out all of the online retailers, and BestBuy even offered free shipping or of course local pickup at their stores. It was very tempting, but I decided to hold out on storage for awhile.

Oh right, I also got my printer at Best Buy. It's a $180 All-in-One Epson printer that I got from BestBuy for $79.99. Best printer I've ever had.

And lastly, I've used BestBuy to go check out TVs in stores. Once I decide on a television I usually search online for sales with free shipping.

Note: I purchase about 97% of my electronics online, and 3% at BestBuy.

I asked the guy then why no one told me this on the phone and they said it's not to discourage customers to come down, and that maybe they'll buy something else while they are there.
Scum bag business tactics.

Geeze. You should have asked if he thought about what would happen by making all his potential customers irate by doing a bait and switch? It's moronic to take customers who are willing to buy and turn them into pissed off customers.

Well...there's a reason 50 stores just closed and that's one of them.

They see us only as walking money bags; not even people. It's a business, but you know, you could treat us with a little respect, BestBuy.

Amazon gave me release day delivery for 99 cents!

BestBuy wanted 27$ for 1 day shipping, which would get here a DAY later. So I'd pay 27$ in shipping...for it to get here slower.

I mean, you just can't compete with that. Plus, BestBuy will wait until release day of some games to tell you they don't have your order.

Oh, they'll take your money and say no refunds, as the item is already "processed", but won't talk about when they'll get more, or when it'll ship.

It's crap. Amazon tells you right away when it's out of stock and in stock.

BestBuy sucks.

I understand that Best Buy has to pay for their employees, but Microcenter has to as well but they seem to know what they are doing.

Best Buy just needs to focus on heavy items that are too expensive to ship.

Best Buy management is trash. Garbage in garbage out. In the end the employees are going to feel the pinch.

I'm shocked this is happening to Best Buy, when they sell such amazing products at great prices rolleyes.gif

Seriously, I stopped shopping there years ago due to their horrible customer service.

I bought a $299 printer with 3 year service plan, which died a year later.

When I tried to return it, they no longer carried the printer I bought, and they tried to force me into taking a $199 printer, which didn't have all the features the printer I bought had. ( Printer, Fax, Scanner )

After 3 HOURS of yelling and screaming with the manager ( Yes, their manager was yelling and being rude ) eventually they realized I wasn't going to take the $199 model, and finally gave me the $299 printer all bitter about it, which is in THEIR TOS of what they're supposed to do.

Haven't shopped there since, I won't even step foot in there on Boxing Day.

For the record, Best Buy isn't feeling the Amazon squeeze, they're feeling the Best Buy Squeeze.

Overpriced Products + Uninformed Pushy Sales People + Bad Customer Service = Recipe for Disaster.

Besides the ridiculous prices I hate salesmen in my face every 2 minutes, so they can go away forever for all I care. Not to mention they take advantage of older people who arent tech savy.
