Lets see the tablets and phones are better because Apples biggest new feature in them is backgrounds, while Android keeps on coming out with new features every new version. For Siri its uh, creative keywords at best, it has no integration with apps like Google's voice commands do.
The laptop has USB 3.0. And all that software I have already bought kinda works on it. Bring up bootcamp if you want, but then add the price of Windows license to Macbook Air.
I got 3 Apple products in the junk drawer, 3 dead iPod 3rd gen because they couldn't last longer than 2 years.

iPad 3 is a better tablet than the Transformer Prime. Its OS is smoother, the screen is much better, the GPU is more powerful, and it has more features and better components. Well, you have to decide whether we're going by MSRP or by current market price. I don't know where you live but the Galaxy Nexus is $750 (MSRP, $300 subsidized), the iPhone 4S is $650 (MSRP, $199 subsidized) and the iPhone 4 is $550 (MSRP, $99 subsidized). As for the MBA, it's $1209 here at BB, or $1250 w/ a student discount in Apple store. Besides, why pay $150+ more for a laptop with a worse battery, a worse touchpad, and a less accessible warranty (and worse customer service)?

Besides, the MBA has thunderbolt a far more versatile port than USB3. As for the applcations, the only thing Mac OS X is lacking is games. Other than that productivity, consumption and all other applications are present in abundance.

And finally, Siri has full integration in Apps.

Also, I have had an iPod Classic 80gb that's been working for half a decade, and still works fine.

Hell even that Huawei crap topped it in many markets.
Open source. That's about all that is needed in this space.

Nexus S is an outdated phone.
S2 is a worthy competitor for the iPhone 4, but the iPhone 4s handly beats it in almost every category. Also, the iPhone 4S sold 1 million more in 3 days than the S2 sold in 55.
Galaxy Nexus is a fantastic phone, and perhaps the only phone better than iPhone 4S in the market. It still doesn't annihilate the 4S.
Transformer Prime gets beaten by the iPad in almost every category except, battery life and brightness.
Well now, you're trolling.

Open source is just a preference, and at most it's just one factor, not anything more.

All in all, I'm not saying there are no competitors to Apple, it's just that the MBA, the iPad and the iPhone are priced in line with the competition, and the specs are in line too. You guys want to believe everything Apple is overpriced, but these three devices are not. Indeed if they had been overpriced, you wouldn't be recommending a more expensive Ultrabook instead of the MBA with few benefits over the Air, and a few shortcomings as well. Or even dare compare a completely outdated tablet with a 1080p screen and 39% sRGB color accuracy (yea, it is that bad) to a 2048x1536 resolution iPad with a 95% sRGB color accuracy.

This is one household that has 0 apple products and 2 technically apt people.

I predict this household will never have an apple product in it.

Besides i am pretty sure not many people use iPODs anymore. Who knows maybe I got older and no one i know uses an iPOD anymore.
if you take into account how many people who own one apple product own other apple products, the numbers could even out. Sadly i like full control over the hardware/electronics i buy.
What the heck is a hipster? Last person i saw called themselves a hipster was some chick i asked her why she had so many piercings and tattos, and she said she was a hipster. That is my idea of a hipster.

I have been doing research around at Head-Fi and iPods are frequently suggested for being one of the best bang-for-buck DAPs out there as far as sound quality goes (which is why I got mine), at least with the line-out dock. Someone said that there are better alternatives at every price point for everything Apple puts out though (thought I quoted/replied to him in my post but I guess not), so I figured he'd be able to give me an alternative.

Everyone I know uses iPods, but I'm only 20, so that's not saying much, although they're very popular over at Head-Fi.

iTunes hasn't had DRM for years and while Apple doesn't have something like Amazon Cloud Player, saying they don't have free cloud storage isn't entirely correct as they have iCloud (first 5GB of storage is free). By the way, I use Amazon Cloud Player and it is pretty sweet.thumb.gif

I pretty much agree with all your points, but this is OCN and most of us OC and like fiddling with stuff most people wouldn't.

At stock most apple products are pretty evenly matched with their competition and in rare cases (ipad 3' screen res) are superior. Unfortunately after having used a rooted Prime it completely destroys the ipad 3, with the exception being the everything of the ipad 3 screen. tongue.gif For the money I would give the edge to the ipad 3 for most people but for people who like mods and most OCN's the Prime is the better tablet.

On the phone front I would say the Iphones don't have the same screen advantage as most Sammy Galaxy S phone wreck them for color reproduction and vibrancy with their Super Amoled screens. Apple's software is so far ahead of most things in simplicity and ease of use I don't blame people for using their products. But there are a few phones that do wreck the Iphone 4S after being rooted and OC'd while the Nexus Prime being maybe the lone stock that beats it.

Also, please don't try to use sales as a sign of something being superior, apple products sell, and they sell A LOT.

But me personally I like my freedom and prefer to choose what music service to use and choose whether I want to mod/root my phone and try out different roms and kernels. I own a nice Airport Express, and use it as a repeater with my WNDR 3700, solid device and hasn't give men a problem.

This is somewhat misleading as it's a semi blanket statement, some ipod lines are frequently recommended because of the Rockbox support and some are completely abhorred by Head-fi. Usually they aren't bang for buck though since it's hard to get nice one used and new ones are so expensive that for the price there are usually better alternatives. If you have one though Rockbox can really make some ipods shine. I'm happy with my cheapo Sansa clip zip as it has some of the better hardware around and it pairs nicely with my D2000's and IE2's for home and while running biggrin.gif

Below is the long story of how I came to own an apple product. Some background, I preorderd a Creative Zen Vision M and used it for over 4 years just because I didn't like itunes and ipod's, I hate the mac OS because I want to be able to customize my computer and play my games, and I don't really like to be thought of as hip so no apple for me...ever...or so I thought

I was a big advocate for android and its open ideas so instead of replacing my dumbphone with an iphone 3gs a couple of years ago I bought the original droid when it came out for Verizon (At the time AT$T didn't have 3g where I lived either). I loved it at first but like most people I had to sign a 2-year contract to be able to afford it. And within that 2 years it became so outdated and missed so many updates/features that Google introduced that I could not wait to get rid of it. I mean by the time I replaced it there was already the droid 3 released and my phone had not received an update in over a year. I eventually settled on rooting it and installing cyanogen but the phone had so little ram that it had stability issues, sometimes I would receive a phone call but when I went to answer it the phone would freeze and I would have to pull the battery out of it, wait 2 minutes for it to boot, and then call the person back. The same time I was having all of those issues using a legacy phone with no support my friends with their iphone 3gs were rocking the newest version of iOS and loving it. Now I have an iphone 4s and I will never go back to android.

The flagship android phone that arguably helped it pass iOS and RIM was outdated within months, replaced in less than a year, and abandoned soon after even though 99% of the people that bought it were still under contract has nearly turned me into an apple fanboy tongue.gif

I prefer PC many times over.
