[BGR] Half of all U.S. households own at least one Apple product - Page 20

My iPod Classic served me faithfully for several years while keeping a decent battery life and surviving a LOT of drops. It did the job, and it did it very well.

Only recently did I upgrade to a Cowon J3 + a decent pair of phones (sennheiser IE7's) for drastically better audio quality, but I still miss the iPod's controls a lot frown.gif

So you could say whatever little experience I had with an Apple product was a very good one.

I have never, and will never, buy music from iTunes. I downloaded iTunes, for free, added my music, for free.

I guess I was mistaken about having to buy music. Not that I care, I'm not ever going to use itunes. Who cares what kind of DAC is in it? I don't obsess over that kind of thing. I also don't go camping in the himalayas, so battery life is never a concern for me. All I'm saying is that I detest Apple's entire business philosophy and don't want/need anything Apple. Don't even get me started with that Siri garbage. I'm still trying to figure out who thinks we can't live without voice controlled devices...

I (and other people who think audio quality is an important part of buying an audio player) care what kind of DAC is in it. You may wish you had a longer battery life if you're ever on a 10+ hour flight, road trip, or even just going out for the day.

I guess I'm just a consumer whore in that I don't really care about business philosophies, I just want a good product at a fair price, and so far my iPod has been much higher quality and better performing than any other DAP I've tried, and probably will stay that way unless I get a higher end Cowon/Sony Walkman/HiFiMAN/etc., not to mention it has free wifi, games, ebooks, as well as a great touch screen and excellent battery life for less than $200 smile.gif

I don't understand in what circumstances people here are using Ipods.
When i'm away from home i don't want to have to carry a phone & an ipod. For a rumoured increase in DAC quality that i won't even be able to notice through earphones.
When i'm at home the sound system is plugged into my pc.

So when does the ipod come in?

Oh so ipods are really only for special occasions? On a road trip i could use a car charger, So only people who are constantly flying or go out for VERY long periods of time (often) have a use for their ipod?

Every Apple device supports alac which also a loseless codec. It's very easy to convert flac to alac without losing any metadata; there are tons of programs that do a fantastic job and are free.

So that shouldn't be a problem.

You're right, you probably wouldn't be able to notice a difference in quality. Someone with a nice set of headphones/IEMs and an appropriate amp would, though smile.gif

And no, iPods are not "only for special occasions". Nice strawman though, lol.

Such a narrow minded perspective. Some of us would prefer not to dedicate our limited memory space and battery capacity for music. We would rather have a dedicated music player with a crap ton of music in there, much like a tiny jukebox to go. I had an iPod Video for roughly 5 years, before recently upgrading to a Cowon J3 to go with my portable headphone amp PA2V2. Those are always in my messenger bag hooked up either to the car sound system or my K550 at work. I used my iPod everywhere, everyday save at home where I use better headphones hooked up to a desktop amp, so I would hardly have called it a "special occasion device."
