[BGR] Half of all U.S. households own at least one Apple product - Page 7

maybe its just me. but i don't see the logic of overpaying for a MAC.
I've had this argument many times with people and it always comes down to a really simple point.

Me: if you really enjoy MAC OSX why don't you build a hackintosh, You will have more power, better components, and the best part is you'll save a lot of money compared to buying one from Apple.

Apple Fanboy: What? No. Apple makes better parts, they're not going overcharge you that much, otherwise no one will buy from them. No one can build a better computer than apple and I've never got that blue screen thingy i get with my PC.

Me: *sighs* I'm done. *Faceplams and walks away*

wait a sec, in your imaginary argument, the other person does have a ( small ) point. yes apple does not build anything, but they do generally require more expensive and more durable parts than most OEM pc makers. Example: those high res screens and milled alluminum bodies do cost more than modeled plastic found on most other laptops. Is it worth the extra $500? no.

( now compared to most high end parts to assemble your own computer, thats different )

your proof?

Last time i checked, Intel, WD, Seagate, AMD, Nvidia all sell the same parts.

iMacs use the same laptop hardware as other oem's do as well.

Powerful branding = price markup.

There is an iPod in my house from my 6th grade graduation. That said, It hasn't been used since about 7th grade. I think I qualify for the 49%. wink.gif

The problem with some Apple products is the cost. (This is also my opinion on tablets in general, before anyone calls me a hater) iPads are more of a novelty toy than anything IMO. I do own a Transformer, but I only purchased it because it was $250 on Black Friday. I enjoy playing with it, but it is more of a cheap novelty than anything. I do with I had it with me in college rather than sitting at home with my parents. I have been showing my grandparents how to use it, and they actually find it pretty easy to use (I talked them through Skyping with me over the phone, and they got it without trouble.), and my grandmother even wants to get a tablet for herself so she can learn to use the computer. That said, she thinks the usual tablet price (read: $500 for iPad) is much too high for someone like her. Apple makes a decent product, as so many companies. The one thing I hate the most about Macs is that I can't as easily just Google a solution or go to a store and get a compatible piece of equipment to use with it. I can't use a lot of the software that I would on my PC. There's nothing inherently wrong with Apple products, but their software is what keeps me away (read: Athlon XP 2600+ @ 1.9GHz trying to run iTunes when I actually used my iPod).

I don't know a lot of people that "blindly" hate apple. We actually hate apple for logical reasons.

I don't own any Ipod but in my house there is two apple product. Ipod touch gen 2 and Iphone 4s. I have use the product but I rather not support apple like how I would not like to support a game dev I don't like.

I prefer to game and not much game is on the mac as my cousin kept bragging to me how his MBP(bootcamp window 7) could handle BF3 on ultra compar to my asus N71JQ(before the DC jack blew up mad.gif ) and looks better than mine. I laugh at him when watching him play as it was stuttering alot.

I use the mac desktop for digital art class. They weren't bad but I am not use to it as pushing a button to make it right click. It annoy the crap out of me whenever I had to right click and I forget the button to push. The scroll on the mouse blows too!!!! IT"S TOO SLOW FOR ME tongue.gif

ummm... no. I work at a PC repair company and this is so far from true. Macs are terrible to work on (for repair), everyone at my work hates them simply because of that. Apple would rather people buy new macs than get their fixed.

i'm not disputing that, the actual computing parts are the same, but I would imagine the screen, shell, battery, ssd ( i belive macbook airs use a non standard size ssd ? ) are more than likely more expensive parts to manufacture than similar parts produced by windows pc laptops. that is a justifiable reason for a higher price, but still not as much as a high price as apple puts on them.

( notice most compareable Ultra books that are aimed at the macbook air are usually in the same price range ( but there is ofc, an apple premium )

now does the price of their crap bother me? nope. I love my hackintosh.

the last apple product i purchased was an ipod touch ( for my gf ) and an apple wired keyboard for me. The ipod touch is justified in price i think, for what all it can do, its amazing at its price point ( as well as an ipad with an exception for the lte/3g versions ) and just about any thin alluminium keyboard is going to cost around $50.

In my eyes, some things are priced where they should be, some are a bargin, and others I laugh at when i see the price.

is it just that they are ingnorant and don't know that a imac is a personal computer?
I don't think microsoft owns the term " personal computer " do they?
Also, on my 50/50 views here, Apple marketing is late to the party. There is a reason they only hold 10% or so of the computing market ( not counting mobile devices ) Microsoft clearly showed buisnesses early in the game that they should choose their product. Now I will say that that is changing, but they are being smart about it and going after the home user, as trying to fight the corperate world to change from windows to OSX would be crazy. ( although I do think that is a good idea )
Apple to me, is basically the communism (theory, not real world) of the computer world. As long as you play by their rules, everything works, everything is nice, and its a happy life. Windows systems on the other hand, are open and free, and you can do whatever you want. but with that freedom, everyone else is going to do what they want too, so conflicts will happen.

Oh man that made me laugh. MS is maybe a bit more open than Apple on software but they're no where near Linux or even BSD.

Apple is communism as done in the real world (thus not theory/true/Utopian communism); follow the party and the dictator or else. You could also classify them as a cult too if you wanted.

Don't talk about free and open with windows in the same sentence. You're really saying "a slightly bigger jail cell with slightly more control over the amenities and furniture that makes me satisfied". Convenience =/= freedom. Apple sells convenience at the price of freedom...and MS does so to a lesser extent. Sadly, people care more about convenience than they do for freedom and you can see that in the direction that MS is heading along with the growing Apple market share. Hell, look at the pad fad....there's less freedom in those devices yet people eat them up.
