Phenom II X4 970 BE Core VID Question - Page 2

Set 1.35 and see if you're stable under OCCT. I've seen other board/CPU do the same thing, I'm not sure where the numbers come from (AMD on the chip or the board manufacturer or both) but there's certainly no reason to run 1.45 on a stock setup.

They overvolt stock settings most of the time..because some chips are worse than others wink.gif
You can lower it down quite a bit..
Here's an overclocking guide..should you choose to go the other way

You may want to look into getting a real OCing board..

I have tested 1.34 volts at stock speed with prime95 for about an hour, played some games. No problem so far.

I'm well surprised that every motherboard sets different voltages for a particular CPU.

I'm thinking of overclocking the CPU as well, after getting some nice cooler.
By the way, stock cooler is a total disappointment. It can hardly stop the heating at 59C during torture test in prime95. It's noisy as well. It barely does its job even at stock speed. At idle it sits at 33C.

At stock speed how far can the voltage be lowered? Maybe 1.30v?

EDIT:
I've tested 1.32v and failed; but at 1.33v it's running fine with torture tests and gaming. Temp decreased to 57C max as well.

The AMD stock HSF is total garbage...temps run high on stock speed and volts, and it sounds like a freaking tornado in your case. I picked up the Hyper 212 EVO for about $35 or so, and couldn't be happier. Dropped temps WAY down and it's super quiet. Probably my favorite investment in this PC to date.

You're lucky - my X4 980 @ the stock 3.7 Ghz is unstable at anything below 1.4v.
