Alternatively, if you just don't have room to run fan adapters, Noctua's NF-P14's aren't bad at all if you're looking for something in the 1200rpm range.

I definitely have the room for two SR1 560's with GT's and fans adapters, check out build log in sig.

I meant for Captivate, who was asking what to use on his 420 rad... tongue.gif I have no clue if he has room for adapters, some people are pretty tight on space.

GT 1850
Gentle Typhoon 1850 Specs
Size: 120x25mm, 9 blades
Bearing: Double ball bearings
Speed: 1850 RPM
Airflow: 57.7 CFM from the website, 58.3 CFM from the box (Nidec says 58 CFM for theirs)
SPL: 28 dBA box and website (Nidec says 30 dBA for theirs)
Static Pressure: 2.9 mmH2O (from Nidec)
Feature: 3-pin to 4pin adapter included; the adapter includes an RPM reporting lead.

Just wanted to give my two cents to this conversation (Sorry for bumping a 3 month old thread)

LinusTechTips (I know I know, but he actually did some real testing here with a real back pressure machine to pump out real numbers versus the specifications that these OEM/Hardware Manufacturers stick to the back of the box that the fan comes in, the specifications that they know 99.999% of users will not be able to verify)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uUXt7mE6Qg

The NF-F12 Static Pressure "rating" from Noctua is 2.61 mm H2O. Real world testing shows it to be actually ~1.9 mm H2O, which is very similar to a fan that I never see mentioned in "Which fan should I buy for my rad/hsf?" threads: The XSPC Xinruilian 1650. In fact, the Xinruilian fans have nearly exact (if not higher) static pressure of the Scythe GT AP-15's with higher CFM air flow (there are videos on youtube of actual temperature comparisons using an RX360)

Needless to say, I'm going to be selling my AP-15's and going with a full set of Corsair High Performance SP120's in the near future smile.gif Those things are amazing!

Interesting.
I haven't really found a fan to have much more cfm/rpm than a GT though, so while the PQ curve is interesting I think a pressure or CFM vs noise level is the more desirable look. Who cares what the pressure rating is if it requires much more RPM or much more noise.

Static pressure and operating pressure against a typical restriction condition are also two completely different things.

Good discussion..

actually, the static pressure rating that Linus came up with was (correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is correct as to how the machine works) at full restriction, meaning with nearly 0 CFM airflow (hence the restriction), how much pressure is being exerted from the fan itself. the static pressure would actually decrease a bit when used on a radiator as there would be more airflow (higher airflow, less restriction, lower static pressure)

this is why you need to take into account the FPI of whatever radiator you're using and then determine if a high static pressure fan would necessarily give you better temps vs a slightly lower static pressure fan but with a higher CFM. you might not need the static pressure of a Corsair SP120 if you're using a low-restriction rad, and thus would actually benefit from a fan that's more balanced

I'm with Martin on this one: Pressure/Flow vs Noise while radiator mounted is more useful a test than Pressure vs Flow unless you "don't care about noise" which I for one most certainly do care about noise. The only fans I've seen beat the GT-15 for Pressure/Flow vs Noise is the Cougar, but the only tests I've seen are the fan itself, which is less useful than a test against a radiator because many fans sound _very_ different when put against a radiator.

Sorry to bump an old thread again tongue.gif

But I see where joesaiditstrue is coming from... the theory behind that is spot on as I see it... but then again it's all theoretical and in practice many things buck the trend!

I would like to see some testing of the corsair fans... as well as those XSPC fans that someone mentioned... a guy on youtube found that the xspc fans performed as well or better than the ap-15's on his xspc rs (i think) rads...

two tech channels on YouTube both have the xspc 1650 fans outperforming the ap-15's

ronsanut and juggolo, and as far as noise goes... people need to stop spreading misinformation about the ap-15's being quiet, at full 12v they are noisy

Could you post the source for these youtube videos? I am trying to find some fans to get. I have always wanted to get some 140mm fans, but the 120's always have better pressure and CFM. I love the idea of the adapters. Now I just need to get the right fans...
