Download speeds are as fast on Origin as they are on Steam for me, which equates to 4-5MB/s DLs smile.gif Love 'em both.

It's just like Steam. I get slightly faster DL speeds when installing/updating.

Im already half way into the BF3 patch and that was about an hour ago and my ISP sucks (1.5MB down. Patch 1.5 GB size)

Same smile.gif Even tho I have a 10Mbps plan, I only get 1.6Mb/s Download. I get 700Mb/s tops with Steam =.=. And it is true, because I can tell the difference in download times.

Lol watching your drive speeds would do nothing as data is compressed and cached before it is written, not to mention it writes to the drive in chunks.

Furthermore on this subject, regardless if you're downloading from Origin or using a Disc, IT'S ALL A LIE! The speeds reported are not true, using a network bandwidth meter for all source on one LAN IP you can see the amount of bandwidth passing through the computer and it's always close to the usual max you see, Origin just seems to report much higher.

Even the Windows 7 gadget will show this!

700Mb/s in steam? o.O

Yeah origin lies, use a bandwidth monitor to check your actual speeds. It isn't possible to download faster than the speed of your internet.

I have a 24Mbps connection.

Origin reported a 3.0MB/s download speed, when in fact the max theoretical speed is 2.4MB/s (a tad lower than that, I know).

Just for comparison; Steam achieves a max speed of 2.1MB/s and Nvidia.com a max speed of 2.3MB/s.

But regardless of the lies Origin feeds us, the download rate was actually decent enough for a 1.5GB patch.
I have actually checked the download speeds for origin, I started my own ISP and have detailed stats that proved I downloaded the previous patch quicker then I should have. I should get max 48kbps but its downloading atm at 60kbps. thumb.gif

I contacted my data providers and it is possible. Well, in my country anyway.

I had the same experience when downloading the new patch today. I have a 10Meg connection from CableOne usually capped at around 1.2MB/s download and Origin was downloading at around 2.0MB/s steady.

So yeah, definitely a +1 for the speeds, but everything else is kind of meh.. :P
