Went back to stock clock and idle temps still high!

Thread Starter
I've gone back to tock clock while I decide on a new one since the weather is getting warmer.

But my idle temps are the same as when they were overclocked! I had it at 4.2Ghz from 2.8Ghz

I'm on full water with 2 radiators.

700

I'm just about to replace the thermal paste to MX-4 to see if it helps.

Have I damaged my CPU?

May be the stock vcore is just as high as your overclocked one.

Are the fan speeds the same RPM in the radiator? (the fan that water uses) Also it may just be ambient messin with ya. Down here its as high as 90F IN MY ROOM! Hot all the time! Ambient can make a huge difference in temps! Can hit 82C in IBT and with a good ambient only hits 73C! Also everything is seated properly right? no thermal paste changes?

- Drop SpeedFan and use Coretemp.
- 4.2GHz vs 2.8GHz doesn't matter if your using the some VCore. I assume you set that to stock too.
- Ignore idle clocks, mine are high on water in the summer too.. but my load temps are still about 18C colder than a Noctua D14 (arguably best air cooler).

I was thinking it could just be ambient temps as well. My ambient temps keep my idle temps rather high (~35C), but my load temps low (~40C) whether I am running at stock clock or at 3.8 thumb.gif
