File Server Build Review

Thread Starter
I'm building a file server in a little while and was hoping you guys wouldn't mind looking at my parts list. It will be used for streaming videos and files to 3-4 computer.

Hardware:
Processor: i3-2100 (Already bought)
Power supply: Corsair 430v2 (Already bought)
Motherboard: ASUS P8H67-M Pro/CSM or ??? (Needs to have at least 2 PCI and 1 PCIe slots, but SATA ports I don't care about)
RAM: 2 x 4GB of GSkill Value Series
RAID Card: Dell PERC 5/i (Already bought)
Hard drives: 3x 1TB Samsung F3 (RAID 5) + 1 old Seagate 250GB for OS (Already bought)
Case: Silverstone Temjin TJ08B

I will be using FreeNAS. Mainly, I want opinion on that motherboard. I need 2 PCI slots for NICs because I plan to do a bonded Ethernet setup, also the 1 PCIe for the Perc5i.

THANKS!

I can't see anything wrong with this build biggrin.gif.

But, do you really need 8GB RAM? Most file servers run great on 4 GB.. but if it's cheap just get it for the sake of having it

Looks like a really solid build...

Have fun

smile.gif Thanks.

The only reason I put the 8GB in there is because the FreeNAS guide said 6GB was the recommend minimum... so in reality it suggested using 8. Really, I'd prefer not to buy new RAM because I have 2 x 2GB sticks laying around.

Ah right, I haven't used FreeNAS before. All in all it looks like a nice little build... thumb.gif
