[VIDEO] Need urgent help with DELL U2412M Debezel Mod

Thread Starter

Hi guys. I need help, I was SO excited about finally going "extreme" in the quest for thinner bezels with a very low cost and effective solution. BUT, there's always a but, to my surprise the circuit board where the vesa mount is drilled isn't physically attached to the panel! Let me know if you have any solution, please watch the video. And for those of you that are asking yourself about how thin are the internal bezels of the monitor there's also a pic here since I didn't manage to flip the monitor during the video, and yes I'm holding the loose part with my thumbs against the panel in this photo. I've based my initial idea on the U2410 debezel mod, and yes I had looked for info about the U2412M and found nothing about removing the bezels from it, probably because it's a fairly "new" model.

P.S. Also if you find that this video/post/topic could help the community or yourself please give me rep (I need access to create a WANTED topic in the FS section, I've already bought from about 6-8 guys here and probably will never sell anything because I live at Brazil but trader rating isn't enough to grant me access)

It's not your trader rating, it's your rep count that's keeping you from getting into the trading forums.

For a solution: low-heat hot glue.

Just glue the board to the chassis.

Why would using a tape void your warranty? The first thing I thought of was to use #4010 3M mounting tape

I have never used it myself but have heard good things about it. From what I have read it shouldn't leave a residue and can be removed relatively easily.

Yes, use the tape above. It will be plenty strong if used around the entire perimeter of the PCB housing to the back of the panel. It is also completely removable with some work. Do not remove the section of static discharge/grounding tape located about mid-point of the perimeter around the PCB housing.

This I have at hand but I'm not sure if it would be strong enough to hold the weight and keep in mind I still need to handle a lot the "naked" monitors in order to get a proper positioning in the wall.

This tape does not exist here... we have only a cheap version a green label one, and those guys don't send it over here (Brazil). But so far I guess is the best option.

Thanks Vega.

Also someone could inform me where else this tape is sold?

I finally watched the video and now I understand more clearly your situation. The tape would work perfectly, there might be an online retailer in your country that carries it.

But if you can find the tape, a strip of duct tape on each side to the panel might work temporarily. JB weld would also work well, but that would void a warranty, it's incredibly difficult to get off.

Just an update, since I receive some messages about this mod. I have bought the tape waited almost 30 days until it got here and I quit the mod... under my calculations it would require a layer between the pcb holder and the panel itself and another layer over the edge of the pcb holder and the panel... I've found that the metal bezels were thickier than I'd imagined and I was too scared to take it of it would net me another 1mm of less bezel in each side... but the major setback was the lack of support to eyefinity from some games like Diablo 3, I've made it work but it was a pain and not worth since it was just a rescale... So I'm waiting for the Catleaps 2B OC models to come back in production and I'll just use one landscape 27" 120hz catleap with 2 of my Dells in portrait... actually I'm using PLP (gaming in the middle screen, in windowed fullscreen) using the other 2 in portrait for browsing, itunes, skype,etc... AMD Hydravision goes a long way customizing and creating smaller "fullscreen" zones with Hydragrid. Also that's something I would like to know, I've heard that with the 680s you can't use two monitors as extended desktop while gaming in a third monitor that requires dual link (1440P+) if this is true I will totally skip nvidia cards for running my catleap alongside with 2 Dell U2412M.

Just a bit more info that could be useful for someone else. That's my opinion: The mod without removing the front metal bezel would net you something between 8-10mm in total bezel reduction what is something between 25% to 33% reduction from the original bezels... far less than the 66% reduction claimed for the U2410 in the WSGF debezel mod you can find on an youtube video (the one I based my espectations). Overal the monitor is great and far better then my previous CCFL 2209WAs not only because the far bigger real state but it's thinner, lighter, more energy friendly, cooler (no heat at all). I only prefer the previous more square design of the 2209WAs that align with the U2410 design. The blacks are great, the IPS glare is pretty low, the DP port is a great feature if you're looking for no tearing at all (using cards like the 7970DCII or the 7970 Lightning). Honestly I can't think of a better 1200P monitor out there... The ZR24W from HP is the closest contender (I don't own, or have seen one in person).

Girlfriend finds you accent cute and we both think your english is fine. To be entirely honest you speak better than must native speakers we know - albiet a bit slower.

Sorry for a lack of contribution here. Primarily looking to bump this thread to get more hits so you have a higher likelihood of getting your solution.
