Need new card for gaming.

Ever since the 8800GT/9800GT "its the same ****!" deal I figured it'd be best if I asked for advice on every new card I buy instead of just going for it.

I play at 1920x1080. I'm looking for a single card solution. I'm looking forward to playing Far Cry 3 and replaying the Crysis games. I like being able to play around high settings or so.

$300 max, but I'd prefer $250 or less

So... what can I be looking at?

i would recommend and 6970/6950 2gb or a gtx570 i think they are around that price and they are good enough cards for medium to high settings

You can probably spend less than $200 (especially in the marketplace) and get a big upgrade. The E8400 is still a very strong CPU but you don't want to go too high a GPU with that processor. Try for something like a GTX 560 or 6870. Those would both be huge upgrades.thumb.gif

Edit: Even 560Ti's are sub $200 in the marketplace. I wouldn't go any higher with that processor though. Good luck!

I say gtx570/480 (the 480 runs hotter but has a bit more RAM, otherwise they are near identical in performance). I found my 480 for $200 over 3 months ago, so keep your eyes open!

Oh, I haven't updated my signature yet but I've got a i5 2550k and the appropriate memory and motherboard upgrades sitting nearby too.

I'm giving this system to the parents when all is said and done.

Well in that case, lol. I was judging from your C2D. $250 or less I would say a 560ti 448 core or a 6950. As other have stated, the GTX 480 goes on sale here and there for $209 shipped. That is a super deal

try the 7850 2GB @ 250$ it performs as good as a GTX 570

  1. Excellent energy efficiency
  2. Good overclocking potential
  3. Native full-size HDMI & DisplayPort output
  4. Adds support for PCI-Express 3.0 and DirectX 11.1

Hope that helped thumb.gif

or if you have problems with AGTX 560Ti 448 @ 260$ Shipped costs less then the GTX 570 but on a avg outperforms it in some field and in others performs the same thumb.gif
