You cant go and buy GTX580 so the only other option is HD 7950 or HD 7970. I would pay $50 extra just so i can have a GPU to game. 1 week is a lot of time to wait sometimes.

I think you waste more time in gaming than any other things... to be honest. You can game whenever you wanted. Gaming doesn't make you earn money. I am not sure where it is coming from about time = money on buying components to game...

The 7970 was sold out for weeks as well when it was released. I wanted to buy a pair but they were sold out everywhere for about 3 weeks. I'm glad they were now because I've waited and I'm getting a faster more effective card for bf3 with the 680's. As for the Op its pretty simple. 7970 sells will come to a stand still at this current price point. Their sudden availability is a result of no one buying them. Not that magically a bunch of stock came in. The proofs in the pudding. No one want's a 7970 now.

Wait until 680's are available, order, put up 570 for sale and collect. Even if you didn't do that, any 'hardcore' pc gamer will have a backup GPU. I myself have a 4870 just for that. I actually sold my 580 and used my 4870 until the 7970 released.

this makes a lot of sense. Not everyone is RICH ... that can afford to put in an order and then hope they can sell their product. I m sure a majority of people will need to sell first... then have the extra $200 or so to add towards the order of their next purchase

I agree.

Not everyone is rich and not every rich person is eager to blow money on something that is lesser than other. Do not judge people being fanboy one or the other. Some does it for experiences between 2 brands, some wants CUDA and PhysX which is known to be supported only 5% of the application in the market. Some prefer raw power for folding.

Don't judge or force people to say skip this card and get the available one which is about $50-$100 more. Many of us or not many of us have the patience. Usually being patience would save you a lot of regrets because you wait for driver to be mature, revisions, prices change, better card, newer model, final benchmark and etc.

Good example, I've seen some FX owner regret being the first to get FX chip while it just suck to the bottom compare to other chips at later results.

You're way off. If the competition basically doesn't exist due to lack of supply, AMD would be insane to cut costs now. Trust me, their business sense is much higher than yours tongue.gif

So again, why pay more for an inferior product? Both suppliers are companies, not charities.

Anybody who takes a close look at my 7970 Lightnings are going to have a tough time calling them an "inferior" product. rolleyes.gif

Lol, yeah I guess I am the dummy that just spent $600 each for inferior cards. Nevermind the 17 power phases, support for six monitors on a single card, gold plated mosfets and connectors, 3GB of 384-bit memory, voltage check points, dual bios, Twin Frozr IV cooler, standard backplate, and gpu reactor. Definitely inferior to a reference 680...
