Intel Q600 question.

Im basically getting a few second hand parts for my bro because his pc is pretty old now.

A intel Q600 G0 second hand is cheap enough. He already has a motherboard IS A FOXCONN BLACKOPS x48 chipset and DDR3 memory.

I can pick up 2 second hand ati 5850's for cheap. How good of an overclock will you get out of Q6600 G0 on an X48 board? Trying to avoid a bottleneck.

I cant afford a SB upgrade or i7 upgrade really.

You would bottleneck those 5850s for sure. My Q6600 is at 3.5ghz and my 6850s are bottlenecked. They perform equal to, or slightly less than 5850s.

You would also suffer from lack of VRAM in BF3 Ultra Settings, and next gen games. I'm assuming 1080p resolution.

In this case I recommend 1 GPU with 2GB VRAM. Probably a 6950/6970. On the Nvidia side a GTX 480 would be good.

He wont be on ultra. What about a 3.7 3.8 OC? How much of a bottleneck would it be?

1gb is fine. I have 1.2 470 and all settings on high with FXAA is fine.

Which other core 2 quad would be better over a Q6600? Is the Q8400 anygood for overclocking?

q9550, or any q9x50 but they still sell for about what they sold for 2 years, ago even on craigslist.

Too damn right they are. Same price as my core i7 920.

I have a Q6600 at 3.6GHz on an X48 board, it should be cake.

A good Vid pairup would be a 560 Ti level card, or 6870 or 6950.

X48 motherboard: Good for a Q6600, doesn't have the FSB capability for 45nm core 2 (Q9xxx, E8xxx)
Q8400: Only a good overclocker if you have a Gigabyte EP45 UD3P motherboard. If you have any other board, it sucks balls.
Q9xxx: Best of 775 quads, but you'll need a board capable of high FSB. P45 or P35 high-end board. Your X48 can get maybe 3.7 out of it, maybe more if you go crazy with NB voltage or have a lucky board that's stable over 430FSB.
