You have to flash the drives firmware before it will work with the 360. its not like the ps3.

theres a Dos program called HDDhackr used to do this.

the following drives are compatible.

- WD Scorpio Series BEVS/BEAS
- WD Scorpio Blue Series BEVS/BEVT
- WD Scorpio Black Series BEKT/BJKT
- WD VelociRaptor Series

I don't think any HDD will work. Most people have success with the Western Digital Scorpio WD1200BEVS 120GB SATA.

You should be able to use any version of the scorpio series. The new versions of the flashers are much better than they used to be.

I did it, and even sprung an extra $10 for the faster HDD, it was worth every penny.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136279

I came from a 20GB HDD that had 12gb free by default due to 8gb being taken up by the xbox emulation software,

I had to delete game updates to install just 1 game, and it had to be small too.

The 4GB on your Xbox is internal flash memory not a HDD. I usualy use that 4GB space for like my profiles and Apps (like flixster, youtube, etc...), I'm sure it doesnt improve the performance that much, but I'm just an orginize nut haha.
