Help with Q6600 on Striker Extreme

Thread Starter
Hey there!

I'd need some help with overclocking my q6600 on the striker extreme.
I bought this board as a replacement for my p5q-pro, which let's say had an accident and unfortunately died..
I was running my q6600 @ 3.4ghz @ 1.3250Vcore on the p5q-pro, so I want to achieve atleast the same speed now on the striker extreme, but I'll be fine with 3.6 as well, if the vcore stays in "normal" levels...
But me being an overclock noob, and the bios being totally different, I have no idea what to do actually, so I need you to ask for some help please smile.gif

CPU ratio Settings - 8
FSB frequency - 400MHz
PCIE frequency - 100MHz
DRAM Frequency - DDR-800MHz
Load line Calibration - Enabled
CPU spread Spectrum - Disabled
PCIE Spread Spectrum - Disabled
CPUV: 1.325V
DRAMV: 1.90V

now if you want to get higher, as the max temp is 80.C, so you still have loads of headroom.
Bump the cpu coltage to 1.4v and try 420MHz, run Intel Burn Test for 20 passes on high ram, and if it passes, try 430MHz, just keep raising the FSB until it fails the test, then return it, to the last stable FSB

I can tell you from direct experience that the Striker Extreme does not play nice with overclocking the Q6600 or any quad for that matter. Even after you get past the FSB holes, it will constantly be unstable for no apparent reason, and no amount of tuning with the million BIOS settings you have to use will help.

The Striker Extreme is best for a 45nm Duo like the E8400/E8500. Even then, it's a finicky ***** and if not for being so pretty I would hate its guts. I had to move on to an intel-based 775 when I got my Q6600 back in the day, and it's still running on the board I moved to, check it out under my rig list.

@dlee7283:
Are you sure this are all the settings I need to adjust in there?

@2thAche:

Ye, I've read that the Striker Extreme can be *****y about overclocking q6600's, but it was really the only logical choice in such a short time for me.
New 775 boards for sale here are only p41 and g41 chipsets, which aren't any better for overclocking as far as I know + they're overpriced imho..
So I just went for this used Striker Extreme (+3 supreme fx soundcards) for 80€ which I think is a rather good deal..

Well good luck. I was ready to throw mine out the window, it had issues with random crashes that nothing would help.

Used intel board is your best bet. You can probably get decent ebay $$ for the SE and pay for a good P45 board with it.

Sweet mother, the Vdrop on this board is abnormal!!

So the settings I used:
FSB:MEM Linked with sync
FSB: 1508
MEM: 754
Memory: 2,1v
1.2v HT: 1.55v
NB: 1.55v
SB: 1.6v
CPUVTT: 1.55v
Mem timings 5-5-5-17-22

Now for the Vcore:
First I tried with 1.3250v
Idle in windows = 1.232v
Load with prime = 1.216v

Got a BSOD after 20 secs..

Next 1.3750v
Idle in windows = 1.264-1.280v
Load with prime = 1.248v

Freezed up after 35 secs..

Next 1.4000v
Idle in windows = 1.296v-1.312v
Load with prime = 1.280-1.264v

No crash, prime ran 5 tests in 16 minutes, which I'm happy for now (on my previous board prime crashed after 2 minutes, yet the comp was perfectly stable with everything I threw on)..

Now, another "problem" if I may call it so..
The voltages, bios vs. hwmonitor are way off..
For example:

Memory: 2,1v (2,21v in hwmon)
1.2v HT: 1.55v (1.65v in hwmon)
NB: 1.55v (1.60 in hwmon)
SB: 1.6v (1.63 in hwmon)
CPUVTT: 1.55v (1.65 in hwmon)

Is this normal or should I be worried?
I don't want to fry the board or some other stuff because of that...

You'll need to manually set those voltages. The striker will overvolt the hell out of everything if you leave it on auto.
