X-Fi static/audio failure with Win7 64bit

Thread Starter
I'm having lots of problems with my X-fi soundcard model SB0460. When watching youtube, it sounds will crackle, then speed up, then just stop. I tunes will start but then just stop playing. According to my X-Fi properties driver tab, the drivers are 6.0.1.1375. Does anyone know a fix or have better drivers for Win7 64bit?

EDIT: After playing with a few different drivers, I'm beginning to doubt the problem is with the drivers.

Thanks. I've already downloaded those and ran the setup. I think it installed them? I was having problems still.

I actually just uninstalled the device drivers (again) and let windows update it automatically at startup. Having good luck so far... have my fingers crossed.

Still interested if anyone else has had problems or knows of any good drivers.

Have a look here,

http://www.hardwareheaven.com/pax-download-pci-x-fi-series/

I use to have a Xtrememusic and I used those drivers. Absolutely loved them! Then I upgraded to a titanium HD and it was a world of a difference thumb.gif

I agree with Philbar, PAX drivers are the best. I has static on my Xtremegamer with creative drivers; after installing the PAX drivers, it was all gone. Nice crisp, clean sound.

I will have to try those PAX drivers then. I've found that the sound works with freshly installed creative drivers... until I restart. Once I restart my computer, the sound is screwed up again.

Ok so I tried installing the PAX drivers but I'm still having the same issues. When I uninstall all the old drivers and restart, windows automatically installs the creative drivers so I can only overwrite them with the PAX drivers. Is there any way to stop windows from automatically downloading the creative drivers?

Windows should not 'automatically' install drivers for the Xtrememusic. It might install generic drivers for it, but those should be able to be uninstalled in device manager.

Your problem almost does not sound driver related. Does it happen with the onboard as well?

Onboard works fine. My card worked fine before upgrading to Win7. And yes, windows definitely automatically finds the device drivers and installs them.

Anyone else have any ideas? Could my soundcard just be bad? I've had it for about 6 years now. I'd look into getting a new card but I'm not sure if that'd fix the problem.
