[Question] De-overclock a factory overclocked card?

Hi All

I'm planning to get a non reference gtx 680 with an aftermarket cooler.
Most of these cards are factory overclocked as their default settings, I was wondering if you could de-overclock the factory overclock to a pre overclocked setting? Ie the settings that come out in the reference card?

Normally I would get a reference gtx 680 and just pop on say the artic cooling extreme, but with the layout of the reference cards for the gtx 680 that won't be possible. It would be much easier to therefore get a non reference card with an aftermarket cooler and de-overclock the factory overclock. I want to do this to minimise the noise and heat.

I know that most aftermarket coolers will run quieter anyway, but i'm just wondering if its possible?

Thanks

Honestly, the noise is very minimal at the factory overclocks. They are often comparable or better than the factory reference versions

You can downclock a card using precision, but it shouldn't affect temps all that much.
