KMAC (Keyboard Mania Attic Craft)

Thread Starter

A wise man told me that once I start typing on a KMAC, I would throw away all my other keyboards...   and you know what, if it wasn't for some sentimental reason, I would've done just that (already traded my Filco Limited Edition reds with a Type-S).  I got the "winkeyless" version meaning no Windows keys at all and also there were 2 color choices, silver or titanium.  I opted for the later.  It doesn't come fully assembled and since I have neither the time nor the equipment (soldering iron being one of them), I had someone else do it for me.

The package came in yesterday but I missed the delivery so had to go pick it up this morning at the Post Office.  This thing is heavy even though it's an aluminum case.
Tipping off the scale at 3.74 Lbs.

More pics with LEDs lit up..  now I'm not a big fan of keyboards with LEDs but these are beautiful.  They're very subdued and not overly bright as you can see below

Now, there were some delay due to the fact that the KMAC organizers weren't too happy when the first few batches arrived.  The colors on the 2 pieces didn't match (top and bottom frames) so they had to send the whole original batch back and wait for the new batch.  Last I've seen they're selling off these off-color 2 tones at a discount price over at Korean keyboards enthusiast forums (where whiskerBox frequents a lot these days lol).

That's it for now and if you have any question please let me know. smile.gif

Looks swank. Can you tell us about the material? Is it a metallic one, or is it plastic that looks metallic?

IIRC, around $300 just for the case & PCB.  Switch, LEDs, springs, etc those are extras.  Plus I believe they don't have these anymore.  You'd have to wait for the second round.

Well... jeez.

That is one impressive keyboard.

Wait, so you can get MX blacks with 55g springs? How is this different from a brown or a red key? I have no idea at all is why I'm asking redface.gif

Those springs were modded with 55g custom springs. Cherry MX red and MX black switches only differ in their springs; red is about 45g and black is originally about 70-75g (pretty heavy).

Were you looking for their linear design, but not as light as the reds?

This is a really awesome keyboard, how does it compare to you Torpe, and do you intend on switching your daily drivers?

Yes, since a lot of folks complain that the black switches are too heavy and the reds are too light.  The feeling is different when typing on any Topre switches compare to Cherry MX.  TBH, I can't pick just one and that's why I have several of them to choose from. tongue.gif
