New Build : Trigger Likely Pulled in 1-2 hours

Hey guys just wanted to post a basic outline of my new build to see if I can get any input. Here is what I've come up with so far and I'm likely to pull the trigger by 12.

Antec 300 : I really want to stick with this case even though it is out dated. My current rig is the same model and it will become my Windows Home Server 2011 machine when this is complete. Matching cases will look nice under my desk.

Corsair ax650: Looked like the best buy with the below discount. I'm really looking for something that is 80 plus gold or platinum.

Memory: 16 GB good feedback not much to say on this one

Cougar fans: I currently have the same set in my current Antec 300 and love the look. The 6 will fill out my case.

H80: I really like these all in one units. I can have the air exhaust right out my case and can swap RAM easily unlike the Noctua monster. I'm going to be picking it up from amazon most likely it is around 85 bucks on there.

Video Card: AMD 6870. I currently am using this my my current rig, definitively will be looking to upgrade in the near future ( 1-2 months) but for now it stays.

CPU / Motherboard: This is wear I have no idea since I've been out of the hardware game so long. I have $530 to spend on this combo but not convinced I should be going all out here. I don't do any really CPU intensive task. Video card wise I am looking to upgrade to 1 or 2 7870s I just want something decent that won't bottle neck these card(s). I would really appreciate some help on this choice.

Since this is an AMD thread, I would suggest you getting a 960T CPU with an ASRock 990FX Extreme 3 motherboard

If you want to go Intel, however, a 2500k and an ASUS P8P67 will do just fine

Since you do not do anything cpu intensive, a 2500k will serve you just dandy.

I agree, though for the Intel you might also consider the ASUS P8Z68 as well, or the ASRock Z68 Extreme 3 (or 4) Gen3 for the 2500k

I agree with all, i5 2500k should do well, and if you live near a Microcenter, they're selling them quite cheap. Go with the Asrock boards if you want something a bit cheaper.

Alright. So this:

will be the best bang for the buck?

What about a FX 8120. I think from what ive seen they are a bit slower but with 8 cored more future proof?

Not really, since your not doing any heavy CPU workloads. AMD is now showing us that the days of more cores = more performance are now over; at least for them.

All too true. From the benchmarks I've seen, the only times it beats out the 1100T are when it absolutely needs those 2 extra cores. When it comes to performance-per-core, the Thubans win hands down.

So that would be my suggestion for CPU. Get an 1100T or a 1090T. They should handle all of your multitasking and unitasking needs without breaking a sweat, and from what I'm told they're great overclockers. As far as motherboard, get a reliable one that suits your needs. A lot of people seem to be suggesting ASRock around here, and personally I prefer Asus boards. You can get almost any am3/am3+ mobo that suits your needs within your current budget.

The NZXT Source 210 is hordes better than the Antec 300 for a lower price on Amazon ($40 shipped).

The Antec 300 does not have behind-the-tray cable management!

Are NZXT's cases really that good? I know the Phantoms are pretty popular, but haven't heard much about their other cases.
