How do i OC my new 560 ti with Precision X?

Thread Starter
Hey guys, new here, ive been lurking for a while, PMed "Go4life" after reading his p5n-d guide, and successfully overclocked my e8400 to 4.0ghz on air (thank you, thank you tongue.gif )

i was hoping you pros could shed some light and help me out, i just bought and installed my evga GTX 560 Ti "exclusive superclocked" edition (the boring white box one). i believe the current settings are 900mhz, 1800 shader, 4008mhz memory clock... heres the link to the specs http://www.evga.com/products/pdf/02G-P3-2089-KB.pdf

i downloaded EVGA OCscanner X and Precision X, and also downloaded Unigine Heaven DX11 Benchmark, so i believe im ready to go-

can anyone give me some info on what are some good numbers to start with? i understand not every overclock will be the same, but im sure a general area will get me going. Precision X currently shows GPU Clock at 90MHz and Memory Clock at 2004 MHz, these numbers are on idle.

what numbers should i aim for? what should i stay away from inside Precision X to not fry anything?

thanks in advance

well just to give an update, i have slowly brought up the core clock up to 965, shader to 1930, and have not touched the memory clock yet. I have been testing with OC Scanner X in 1080 with Heavy GPU Load checked, also have used heaven in 1080 resolution, medium tessellation, 2x antialiasing, no artifacts yet. This is on the factory superclocked voltage of 1.062

I don't have your card, but I'm sure you'll find LOT's of posts when you use the "search" button on top of the site's pages (the white bar under "Home" , "Forums" , "Reviews" , "Gallery" , "etc..."

Meanwhile your doing good! Just go up, step by step, and run a test all maxed out and see the different fps go up.

I don't know about temps (use gpu-z or something) but it's also a Fermi based one so I believe it can hit 90°C

(My GTX470 is Fermi and can hit 90-93°C easily with stock cooling) But if I were you, I would just hit 90's while testing, not 24/7 wink.gif

Also know that while testing and hitting 90, you probably won't hit that same 90°C while gaming... most of the time wink.gif^

Just set everything at stock speed with fan at max speed (just for testing) and run Heaven 3.0 ALL maxed out. Save the result, it's your reference point)

Now put the core up by 50MHz at a time and see what it does: temp wise and error wise (artifacts, freezes, bsods, etc)

When fails, put 50 lower again and increase by 10. Until it's stable.

Then do the memory same way.

My ASUS GTX470 is stock:
608MHz core (and automaticly double on the shader: 1215MHz)
837MHz on the memory
MAX 1.085V
So the first thing I did was cranck the V up till max of 1.085V smile.gif (so you know it has got to be stable if the temps allow it)
Then I noticed I finaly couldn't go higher cause it gave artifacts/bsods etc
But the temps were just 50-60°C (with aftermarkt cooler)
So I figured it could go higher if I had more Voltage...

So I flashed the BIOS of my card to give it 1.15V wink.gif

And I was able to hit 900MHz on the Core (1800 on Shader)
2000MHz on the Memory
I could have hit 930 once but 900 was also giving problems so now I'm at 800/2000/1600 at 1.15V

just keep going at stock volts until you see artifacts or driver crashes, raise at like 5mhz intervals, do a 5 minute test then move on.

up the core clock until you begin to have issues, Then slowly increase the memory clock until you start getting artifacting, once that happens you can begin to increase the voltage to achieve further clocks.
Most 560Ti's can reach 1ghz+

thanks guys, just got back on and goin to proceed. As far as the Core clock, once im too far up will i see artifacting? or what are the symptoms for too much core clock. on heaven sometimes i get a slight "lag" spot, but im not sure if thats just my computer lagging or if its a symptom of too much core, no artifacts yet.

Oh I see now.
Your using a E8400 and DDR2 RAM.
What speed is it?

Still on 3.0GHz? Assuming not with your cooler wink.gif You might need more the give more power to the 560Ti wink.gif --> OC your proc?!

RAM? Which RAM? Your mobo can support DDR2 800MHz so you need at least 800MH RAM. How many sticks of how many GB's?
Your mobo can support dual channel 4 sticks total of 8GB. --> Best would be 2 sticks of 4GB but 4 of 2GB will do wink.gif

the e8400 is at 4.0ghz on air, and i have 4 gb (2 x 2gb) of Corsair XMS2 DDR2 running at 1066mhz at 5-5-5-15 with 2.11 volts.

i currently have the video card at 965 core clock running stable. i have not started overclocking the memory just yet.
