[Bit-tech] WireDream claims audio boost with silver SATA cable - Page 5

If the cable is in fact better (it really depends on the construction and geometry, somewhat on materials...an expensive one may easily be worse than a cheap one), there may possibly be less probability of error in transmitting the digital information over the cable, possibly a larger difference if there's some fringe scenario involving extreme EMI. With some standard cheapo cable you're already getting vanishingly small error probabilities though.

There's some circumstances where some cables for digital communications will definitely be better than others, just probably not with short SATA connections. With enough noise, at the receiving end the 1's start looking like 0's and vice versa...

And of course, you're not improving on the motherboard connectors or any of the parts that actually make any of the significant differences.

Even for analog audio interconnects you're looking at differences in the thousandths of dB between different cables, btw. (except if looking at runs of speaker wire to passive speakers, in which the impedance of the cable itself is not negligible compared to the load impedance, which is why thick-gauge wire is needed, particularly for longer cables)

You also don't understand what a digital signal is.

Only if "normal" ones didn't work, but they do. By and large, if the host and the drive can tell the difference between on and off when they need to, no further improvement in signal quality will make any difference what so ever.

When a free cable will do just as well in 99.99% of environments, that's the only downside you need to render these cables totally irrelevant.

look man, this is why you shouldn't patent everything so people won't have to make dumb ***** like this

BRING ON THE BENCHES

sound and picture quality are far from subjective. Both can be measured scientifically and objectively. Both have multiple standards.
As the Audio Editor on OCN, I do not endorse this product OK! I only endorse properly tested products but I don't include the measurements as I know the majority don't care or don't understand.

And yes, listen to what mikeaj says. He knows his electrical engineering stuff.

At least it would be pleasing to look at.

Not that^

They should have pitched it HWBot and told the pro-overclockers that this will make their 32mil Pi faster... or produce higher suicide CPU-Z verifications devil-smiley-019.gif .. After all-> no one in the computer game has more money to waste than competitive benchers.

*Would be funny to see "Classified" written on them.. with a pic of Vinbo giving the thumbs up thumbsupsmiley.png ... wheee.gifaxesmiley.png

This product preys upon the misinformed. I feel bad for anyone gullible enough to purchase this product.
as you can see, even on OCN there are people who float the possibility of this improving anything over a regular cable. stupidity sells
post #49 of 88
As others have said these are digital signals that are running through these cables. A short run SATA cable, less than 2' which is most common, is not going to introduce errors in any appreciable way and there are mechanisms to take care of those few errors.

Unless I see some benchmarks to show otherwise these are designed to part fools from their money, imo.

It's digital. The signal either gets there or it doesn't. If it's not getting there fast enough, you need a faster disk. Every cable that is built to SATA specs and can transmit digital data at SATA speeds will 'sound' exactly the same.

If you are listening to music from inside the LHC beam containment, then maybe the error correction will mean you'll need a faster disk than you would otherwise.
