I'd much rather spend $50 more and get the Lightning which is easily worth much more money than $50 in upgrades.

EK is making a full VGA water block for the Lightning as well.

I'm keeping my eye on this card. Hoping for a $500 hot deal on it before summer is over. This is one 28nm card that I would spend $500 on.

So far the reviews are not that impressive for this card on over clocking but the over clocking potential is definitely there.

1700mhz with liquid nitrogen 3dMark11.

This is with the stock PCB power phase design.

There is not a single stock PCB design current GTX680 capable of beating it in speed or performance.

So the best version of the 7970 is still beaten by a reference 680 =/ and 100 dollars/pounds more again so its like 130+ more than a 680 and still doesnt outperform it, what is going on amd.

If you checked out the whole review, it was about half and half 7970-680 on the games.

This is ridiculous BF3 is not even the best looking game out right now. The 7970 out performs the 680 in Metro, Witcher 2 and Crysis

Bf3 played by millions every day each day. witcher 2 metro and crysis great games but played through once for the story and the graphics then dumped hmmmmm I think I would go with nvidia atm.
maybe a couple of playthroughs each at most tongue.gif

I did and I still am very underwelmed not only are they charging higher still than a 680 but they are charging another 100 over any other 7970 =/ It looks to be an amazing card but if I was paying that much I wouldnt be wanting to be trading blows with a 500 dollar sub card that was meant to be a gtx 670.

I give the win to better drivers. Drivers are important and AMD is surely lacking on good drivers most recently.

There is no comparison in overall card design. The Lightning has the big win in hardware design.

The fact of the matter is that the 7970 has more overclocking headroom. You can still go another 200mhz on that lightning where as on the 680 you can go 200 total *if* your lucky. Having locked voltage works against the card no matter how you try to spin it. If you can cool it properly the 7970 is the faster card end of story.

Hmmm, not a very exciting review, seemed almost halfa$$ (half of it was just copy/pasted from the original 7970 review). Still, if I can get a stable 1200MHz out of both of my Lightnings I think I just may be able to get playable frame rates in BF3... rolleyes.gif

By the way, I had already read about the lack of dual-link DVI so I went ahead and got a $10 DP-to-MiniDP cable for my S27A950D. I see no problem there...
