looks good. i got an asus 15" a few months ago for ~$1200 with the same processor, same ram, a slower gfx card, and 750gb hdd and it's been pretty good.

with the way asus' are made i knew i couldn't go with the 17" because they are gigantic and i actually do travel with mine.

i don't know about yours, but the battery life is actually pretty good with these processors.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834152301 7200 RPM 1.5 TB hard drive, Blue-ray drive burner!, 16 Gb RAM. I'd say it's worth going $200 over budget.

The laptop I posted is the barebones version of that laptop, You can customize it and put all of that stuff in it and still not go over budget if I downgraded to the 570. I kinda wanted the 580 since I game quite often

Go for the best GPU you can on a laptop if you just plan to game. I would get an i5 instead of an i7 if you want to keep it in your price range.

Probably one of the best options. The i7-2630QM is backordered so you might as well wait or get a 2670QM - if it takes 2 weeks to come in, then IB mobile will be released very shortly after.

sidenote - the 675M is a rebranded 580M, the 680M hasn't yet been announced.

I have the 15" ASUS with the i7 and the 2 gig GPU and I am loving it... I do not need to be on the cutting edge of the technology and as long as it is playing games at max or very high (like it is with Framerates over 35... Life is good.... I am not knocking xotic or any other brand, but... there are so many cookie cutter versions of the 15" and 17" laptops that you could spend 2-400 less, have the OS installed and have enough money to by a 128gig SSD which will turn a beastly laptop into a monster.... I have nothing bad to say about mine except that I wish I got it sooner.... well that and the fact I have to disassemble the dang thing to get at the HD underneath (15" version only) but that is like 5 minutes or less....

good luck with whatever you choose...
