Good info, I am sure he was referring to assembly but people often overestimate how much more efficiency you get that way.

So technically I do think many games could run 1080p at 120fps, but it's more likely they would run at something like 1600x900 at 120fps and then upscale to 1080p.

Too bad none of those games look like that on the PC. Textures still suck when close up. Aliasing is still a problem.

Those just scaled down images to make it look good, some are even game art, not actual gameplay shots.

But yes, in general you are correct, it's about much more than that like texture sizes, compression, number of polys, postprocessing effects, etc.

Why render at say for example 120fps when you can drop the frame rate to 30fps and then have 4x the the amount of GPU time to use on making the pixels look prettier.

That's the problem, developers will always choose prettier pixels over high frames rates and high native resolutions.

Generally developers will do that, but for racing games or FPS they may try and use the extra horsepower to get better framerates to deliver a better experience.

This kind of bull before a new gen release really makes me laugh.

Yeah, they're going to change gaming alright, by finally having graphics that may - just barely - look vaguely like the PC platform, which is still going to be ahead once they're finally out. Nice attempt at hyping them up. It's even funnier they're using PC game screenshots to accomplish it.

Console gamers really are quite gullible.
