[CVG] The face of tomorrow: How PS4 and Xbox 3's visuals will change gaming - Page 3

I am definitely not hating on console gaming. I own both an XBOX 360 and PS3. Love them both. I love PC gaming as well. Bottom line is developers are catering to consoles first and PC second. High end video cards in a PC are hardly being taxed by the games available today. There are a few exceptions: Battlefield 3, Witcher 2 and Metro 2033 take a beast of a machine to run at full specs. Consoles and PC's both have their positives and negatives. Just wishing there were more dedicated PC developers really willing to put the PC to work. Crytek was great with the original Crysis. Then they sold out and came Crysis 2. While still a great looking game, in my opinion the original Crysis, maxed out at 2560x1600 still looks better than Crysis 2.

Six times the power of current generation consoles. And no backwards compatibility. You buy everything again. You feel awesome for having two copies of BF3 and two consoles. So you make a reddit img post of your little brother playing a platform that had it's OMG services cut; so he's connected to XBConnect, while you are sitting next to him playing BF3 on your 720 with your subscription($) account. Laughing about how your little brother is playing on an old system that does not connect to M$.

Well, since devs are largely targeting consoles, they will indeed change the way a lot of games end up even on PC for the next 7-8 years after they're released. It will not likely be anything revolutionary though, mostly just better graphics and hopefully shorter load times, less texture/mesh pop-in, etc. The benefit to most of OCN is that be association PC games will get similar benefits because the multiplatform games will be targeting higher-end hardware.

There's a very good chance that the next Xbox could have backwards compatibility with the 360. It depends mostly on if they choose a completely new architecture, or keep it similar and just bump up the power on it.

I constantly feel like I'm the only one who doesn't feel Crysis 1 is better looking necessarily (compare faces for instance; Crysis 2 faces look so much better pretty great too imo). Maybe it is because I haven't played Crysis 1/Warhead in almost 2 years ... time to look for a cheap deal and buy it again...

I'd love to see how consoles "change" the face of gaming with their new tech. Sure, we will get gorgeous games on consoles (heck, look at uncharted and the ps3's 'old' hardware...).
However, it is a matter of what developers do. There is no guarantee that with the improved console hardware, Consoles won't suffer the same fate as some PC games were the hardware isn't being optimally capitalized upon for a while ...

BF3, Uncharted 2, and Crysis 2 looked pretty impressive to me on console, considering how old the technology is in them.
I just hope they'll make the next gen systems with enough juice to step up from 720p> @ 30FPS to 1080p @ 60 FPS. I can live with that, it's what I'm used to with this rig anyways. tongue.gif

Will the visuals of the next-gen console games melt your face off with awesomeness? Of course not, but they'll surely be a step up.

No one is hating on consoles. This generation including PC the PS3 easily has had the best exclusive roster of games. I so wish Uncharted was on the PC because it would blow our collective socks off if it was.

I don't think we pc gamers will see much improvement, since we already are gaming on a next gen platform.... hence bf3, crysis with mods, etc etc...

Indeed. Make Crysis happen on consoles, then I'll listen. You know what? I'm not even trying to hate on consoles or devs. I just hate when people act like consoles will set the standard for what looks good and what doesn't. Yeah, they might set the standard for what devs use, but they definitely don't set the standard for how good something can look. That will always go to PCs. I doubt consoles will ever even utilize SLI or Crossfire. That alone puts them at a high disadvantage. Of course, I know why they won't use them, but it still proves my point. The game will always look better on PC. I just wish some people would stop acting like consoles will ever match up to PCs in visual quality. It's simply not going to happen... ever. Or there wouldn't be any consoles.
