Uncharted 2 looked pretty damn awesome when I played it. Much better than that screenshot anyway (though the others were dressed up a bit).

Thing is, those first 2 are actually Killzone 2 and Uncharted 3 and you're posting a pic of Uncharted 2 if I'm correct. Plus screenshots is not really gaming is it?

Bottomline; consoles can do stuff with hardware that a port to a PC with the samewise spec in hardware cannot do. And this will again be the case with the next generation. Optimalisation ftw.

And apparently many 100s of millions enjoy it and keep spending on it.

If an 8800GT can play ANY console port with the same settings as console but at higher resolutions and frame rates then that statement is complete BS.

For example an 8800GT can do Metro 2033 at Medium settings at 720p with a better frame rate then consoles or Low setting ( Same setting consoles use ) at 1080p.

So yes, you make a good point... rolleyes.gif

Just to run a console port at 1080p 60fps requires 4x the power and that's before you even start adding in more effects and anti-aliasing.

Gran Turismo 5 can run at 1280x1080 at 30fps with 2xAA. If the next-gen consoles are only 6x faster then 1920x1080 at 120fps might be a stretch, but if they're closer to 10x faster then it may just be possible. I keep hearing the 6x faster number thrown around and wonder how accurate that is. The Xbox 360 hardware is about 8 years old, and the new one's hardware will probably not be finalized until the end of this year, leaving an almost 9 year gap between hardware configurations of the two. If we look at PC hardware that would be like comparing an Nvidia 5900 (released 9.1 years ago) to an Nvidia GTX680, just imagine the difference between those two.

RAM: 128MB / 2GB
Fab size: 130nm / 28nm
Bus: AGP / PCI-e 3
Core clock: 400Mhz / 1006Mhz+
Memory clock (effective): 850Mhz / 6000Mhz
Texture Fillrate: 3.2 Gigatexels/s / 128.8 Gigatexels/s
Memory bandwidth: 27.2 GB/s / 192.2 GB/s
3DMark03 Score: 5213 / 129366 ( over 20x as much )

If we assume console hardware increases similarly to PC hardware, over the years, then we're going to see a huge leap. I wouldn't be surprised to see a near top of the line 7xxx AMD in the next gen consoles, and if one of those were optimized for console I could see 1080p @ 120fps happening easily.

1st: proof of that statement? I am very interested.
2nd: is that also using only 512mb ram?
3rd: read the statement after yours. It would mean a PC with a gtx680 would be running games at a mindblowing fps, resolution, and most of all detail. But it doesn't because games aren't developed for it. At some point it is just numbers. Where higher resolution and fps don't even mean it will look or play better.

Also a lot of TVs nowadays run at 100hz or more. New ones anyway. They go as far as 600hz plasma and LED TVs.
