I don't know. When we see Sony aiming for a 66
70 there's most likely a reason. Power consumption and price is all I see.
I really don't think their aim is going to change much. If they end up using a 7850, it would blow my mind but I can't see it.
The way that performance is needed exponentially as you start increasing polly counts and generally improving the core of the game, the 6670 is going to fall on it's arse. It will equate to slightly better looking PS3 games with tons of blur but no real improvement to the base of the game.
We are entering a purgatory where we keep adding overlays and effects to get games looking more realistic but can never really improve the core of the game. And even a company like Sony has no vision or see's no need to improve anything beyond the coloring on the shell.
I think we are going to see the PC pull even further away, what with OpenCL/PhysX and heavy tessellating abilities and because of the huge gap in general performance. When the current generation of consoles came out they were on-par with PC hardware - this generation is going to put (GPU specifically) hardware in the machine that is 9-10 times slower than the fastest GPU. There's no amount of optimization that will ever bring it close to that, and they aren't even released yet.
Games developed for the PC are going to look light years beyond.Edited by bezelbeater - 4/4/12 at 10:21am
