Really though, run Metro 2033 on a decent PC at 720p, and it will DEMOLISH the console version of Metro 2033, and any other console game. Same goes with Battlefield 3. Fact is that I cant run BF3 at max due to vram limitations. I dont care how optimized the console version is, you cant take 1.1gb of vram usage and put it on 256mb.

Because you just can't add swaths of AA/AF and increase resolution on console games. Point is if Uncharted 3 could run on PC it would probabally be the best looking game around.

Agreed, Uncharted 3 at full 1080p and a healthy dose of MSAA would be the most beautiful game to date. You know I often wonder what PS3 games would have looked like if Nvidia could have gotten a G80 based chip in there instead of G71...

Don't you mean native 1080p?

Full 1080p implies "It doesn't matter if it's upscaled or not, just as long as it's 1080p." Because if that is what you meant then Uncharted 3 is already full 1080p if you set your PS3 up the right way.

If you play it on a big TV it looks pretty good upscaled even. If you play it on a moniter upscaled it looks like horse s.

Yes, that's what I meant. To me full 1080p implies that the output is actually a full 1920x1080 native image, but I suppose "native" is a more accurate word to use.

The word "native" has to be implemented for console players to understand that their games aren't running at "native" 1080p but only upscaled 1080p. Some of them just do not understand this concept.

I played Uncharted 3 on my 23" Dell IPS monitor. It was pretty beautiful.
The only quarrel I have with the monitor is that I'm sitting closer than I would a TV, so the lack of AA was pretty disturbing at times. Why they didn't end up using MLAA is a mystery to me.

You know, I thought this to be true as well.
Especially fans of Halo, because for some reason when you say that Halo Reach is the first real HD Halo game, players tend to give you a condescending stare like you're nuts. They don't realize the other Halos were considered sub-HD resolutions.

However, after explaining it - even in the simplest of terms - they usually understand. At least in my experience. I'm VP of my college's gaming club, and I did a presentation on native resolution rendering a few months back for them. The majority of the club is primarily console preferred, but they were pretty quick to catch on.

I run both of those with ZERO AA or AF. Fact is, they have FAR better texture, better LOD, better mesh detail, FAR better shaders (oh god UC3's motion blur is awful). I know this for a fact. Remove the "fancy TV" aspect, and you'll see that console games look like crap. I have a PS3, I hooked it up to my PC monitor (it does 1920x1200) while waiting for my TV to be delivered. I borrowed a copy of Uncharted 3 from a friend, play it, and was disgusted. The aliasing was insane, there was zero AF, the textures were generally blurry, the models were blocky, the motion blur was just... terrible... and so on. And oh god.. the split-screen. It just ax-murders any sense of visual quality.


Would look good as a PC game of 2006 or so, and fairly decent for 2007.

This is metro 2033 with NO AA or AF, but with maxed out DX11 settings:

Also, finding ACTUAL gameplay shots of UC3 is basically impossible. Its almost always a rendered still from a cut scene or something. Never any HUD.

I'm curious why you think that console gamers are any less informed or intelligent than PC gamers? In fact, I play plenty of console games, and I'm extremely well informed (I make PC games). Just some food for thought: Many console gamers probably know a lot about PCs and still choose to play console games.
