Some parts of the port even look better then the PC version but that should be expected seeing as it's run on Cryengine 3 and improvements have been made in the last three years.
It should be obvious to everyone that while part of the reason Crysis was so hard to run was because it was so advanced but it and Cryengine 2 more specifically were also awfully coded.

The fact that it was "awfully" coded shows what games can look like when they are optimized for consoles.

hell crysis still runs poorly on my sig rig, kinda makes me upset!

Console devs lazy? LOL, these guys barely get 6hrs of sleep every night cuz they work so much overtime trying to hit tight deadlines.. There will be a HUGE leap forwards in graphics, current game graphics aren't really anything to write home about. I'm just disappointed they won't be rendering at 1080, there's so much quality to be gained from doing that.... But that's just me, I even think our TV sets need to up the res to 3840x2160, at 1080 on a 50" screen the pixels are still pretty large and struggle to display finer details.

What I never seem to tire of re-iterating is the fact Console games tend to run much lower resolution textures, less polygons, okish lighting, low AA, low AF, and other "optimizations" which involve "tweaking" settings around the game. If the main aim is to get the game running @30fps @ 720p, all of the above is how they do it.

Whereas on PC you get the option to dial everything to maximum across every detail to the games absolute best! at any resolution etc...

example above

A PC on "low" is better in appearance compared to a console hands down. So even a low end PC running on Low is still able to pull it off.

On PC you get options.

But having said that devs do a very good job at making the best they can out of what a console has to offer.

It is my opinion the new consoles will release, the graphics of console and PC will be matched for a year or 2 then advancements will follow on PC, its the cycle.

This won't mean SFA if "artists" keep going for the "film noire" and "dark & gritty" lighting style, AKA brown with a hint of muzzle flash and zero colour saturation. Yuck.

The fact is this thread is about graphics.

I was just stating my opinion based on my observations over the years.

Your last comment is a little off considering consoles are not coded to run at the SAME RESOLUTIONS as a PC is capable of. But that's not the only factor you must consider when comparing the 2 in graphical horsepower.

Pretty sure you just implied PCs are not capable of 1280x720. wink.gif
His point was that a console is able to outperform a PC with equivalent theoretical power in the real world because the devs are able to optimize more.

I have yet to find a game that is unplayable on my radeon 5770. I play BF3 at 1080p with medium settings and I get a very solid 40-60fps, Skyrim runs like a champ at 1080p high settings 35-60fps. I was going to upgrade to the radeon 7850 or 7870 on release date but I still feel my card has some life in it, when the prices start to fall on the 7000s I will upgrade (late summer). The older I get I spend less time gaming so I try not to buy the high end cards it's just a waste for my playing style. I hope the next gen consoles prove me wrong, I love my 360 and would love to see the 720 be what the 360 was in 2005, fingers crossed (WITHOUT RROD of course) biggrin.gif

I never seem to tire of reiterating that console players do not care about the graphics, they just want to relax on the couch and play the game. I can imagine a comic strip with a hardcore PC elitist watching his friend play a console game go something like this:

PC Guy: "Dude these graphics are terrible."
Console Guy: "Did you see that enemy, he had like, green eyes or something."

PC Guy: "Yea, I saw how crappy the textures were on him, and the textures everywhere else in this game are horrible."
Console Guy: "Ah crap here he comes, which weapon should I use?"

PC Guy: "Does it matter, all of your weapons look so poly I couldn't stand to use any of them."
Console Guy: "Pulse rifle seems to work pretty well, lasers tore right through him."

PC Guy: "Terrible death animation on that enemy, and where were all the blood particles? How lame. This game sucks."
Console Guy: "Wow that was fun. This game rocks!"
