its the cable, had the same error message last night, you have an older IDE cable that has bigger metal cables, you need the one with the thinner ones, like enterprise said, that will fix your problem

metioned this, how much it cost for another ide cable, a couple of bucks right? and it wont be wasted if it does the job, even if it doesnt work, its still recyclable right?

but its his choice how he wants to do it, we have laid down some information its upto him to draw together a conclusion for himself.
