How does my Pentium 4 beat my friends Athlon X2?

I thought X2's raped P4's. Well when playing Crysis 2, I get better frames than my buddy. He has an Athlon X2 2.3GHz 3GB 667 RAM, and a 9800GT. His comp can handle Crysis 2 on lowest graphics, 19" monitor, and Vsync off, and his CPU is always at 100% usage. Mine I play with lowest graphics, 19" monitor, Vsync on and we get the same frames, and my CPU averages 80% usage. I don't get how that works cause it's a single core with HT compared to a dual core.

Might be because even though it's single core it's at higher speed and it has HT. Like the Pentium 4s 3Ghz with HT outperform easily the 2core Pentium Ds that are 2.8ghz at my college. Maybe Crysis is only using a single core so in that case a higher clocked core > lower clocked core.

But aren't X2's more efficient clock for clock?

Hyperthreading makes no difference in Crysis, or even most games for that matter. Resident Evil 5 is one of the few that I know of that can actually make use of hyperthreading and see any kind of improvement from it.

I'd be more interested in what the resolutions you two are playing the game at and what driver versions they have. Also, is it the Crysis benchmark or eyeballing the game while playing?

both at 1440x900 or something like that. and just eye balling. but his would lag until vsync was turned off
