i7 3930K - How to overclock it? - Page 2

1.5v is way too much for a 3930k. Maybe benching for short periods, 1.5v is ok.

1.4v is the recommended max 24/7.

3.8 to 4.0? You can do that by bumping the multiplier to 38 or 40, and not touching anything else. 4.0 is nothing for these and should be easy with stock VCore.

Also, IBT is really not worth anything to test. All it's going to do is generate unrealistic heat, and it's not as sensitive as P95 or OCCT. Use Prime95 small/medium FFT, or OCCT to test your CPU. Then run Prime Blend 6 hrs or so (overnight) to test RAM. Watch your temps, and I'm assuming you have a good cooler.

Okay, It seems like I can forget any overclocking since I still do have my old problem. If I just change anything in the BIOS Settings, the Computer reboots, boots for 1 second and goes completely off then. Then it starts again but my screen doesn't get any signal and just turns blue while the computer gives 1 long beep noise and 3 short beep noises, like "beeeeeeeep bep bep bep" and then it continues to boot but without any signal to the monitor. I'm only able to fix that by taking out the main cable for some minutes, the BIOS also resets after that somehow and I can boot normal again, sometimes I also have to switch from BIOS2 to BIOS1 and then to BIOS2 again to get a boot screen which is extremely annoying and maybe even not that good for the mainboard. Seriously this is an extremely weird computer.

In the BIOS should be an option called 'OC Tuner' (there is on non ROG ASUS X79 boards). Select it. It'll apply a simple overclock for your system smile.gif

I've tried to get the multiplier to 40 now without having any bigger problems, this is what CPU-Z shows me now:

Did I overclock the CPU now or did I only change the Turbo Boost or something? I'm really unexperienced at this.

That's how it should look. You could probably use less VCore.

Now stress test it and watch your temps closely.

Start with OCCT standard 60 minutes.

you should drop that vcore asap.

If you don't want to deal withtesting stability just set it to 1.2... that should be more than enough vcore

Just lowered the VCore to 1.2 and started OCCT 60 minutes large, I got a bluescreen after 3 minutes of testing. What do I have to change now?

Edit1: Changed VCore to 1.25 now, it's running since 7 minutes now, temperatures are max. 62°C at Core #4 and Core#5
