^ truckerguy: Actually the 2500k does not feature HyperThreading... what wins in its case is the 100% true cores (unlike the 4100 in which multithreaded performance is 80% than if traditional cores were used - this comes at the expense of performance but increases power efficiency and reduces die size which will be important on future APUs in which the GPU part replaces the kicked out FPU part anyway through HSA), higher general IPC, and high overclocking ability.  But you're right..... has a 2500k, expects the 4100 to perform at the same level.  Nooooooooooooo.

There's a reason why one costs 2x as much as the other.

The FX 4100 is designed to cater to the i3 2100 in competition - in which case, it is at the right price point sitting below the 2100, and is competitive and doing generally well at this price point.

The chip that costs twice as much gets about twice the minimum FPS in games. Imagine that?

Its a 100$ quad core, so ya get what ya pay for.

I agree with you, I used to play it on phenom ii x6 oc 3.7GHz before I picked my fx 4100 combo at microcenter for $100 and get comparable performance with the i5, a little bit lower but not too much and still playable. I have no complaints with phenom ii cpus with 6MB L3 cache.

Not when your using such a low end card. Even if a game is more CPU intensive than video card intensive, you still need you use reasonable components. I played SC2 on my FX 6100 with my 6950, and i never dip below 70fps.......

Man I do have a couple of hd 6950/6970s and tried them a couple of times with games. I am not a heavy fps gamer I don't play bf3 and only play the story mode of cod series. I used to thought I need better gfx card for this game(sc2) but as time goes by I picked this one so I can dedicate my other cards for mining. But I guess I will power on my bulldozer with the better gfx card and give it another shot. I really want to see what I can achieve with it.

Another data I have is I ran intel burn test which I think uses linpack to test the cpu power. The rough results I got (all under default settings) is:

fx 4100 @4.4GHz 14GFlops
2500k @ 4.5GHz 58-59 GFlops
PII x6 @ 3.7GHz 67-69 GFlops

If intel burn test only uses fpu, which I'm not quite sure, then to make things comparable I should double the fx4100 results and times 2/3 for the phenom II x6 results. make it fx4100/2500k/phenom II = 28/58/44.5. Still unsatisfying for bulldozer.

I was planning on getting the 4100 instead of a 960T but everyone advised to go for the 960T smile.gif

I think you are right, cost-wise, I shouldn't compare fx4100 with 2500k. In this case, I feel phenom ii would be a better bet especially when you have a microcenter nearby a nice piece of phenom ii x4 830 would only cost $50. I heard microsoft is working with amd to bring better performance of bulldozers on windows 8 with new task scheduler.

Thus, I think ATM for better p/v value phenom ii > bulldozer, with the latter having a potential performance boost in the future.

if you really want a fair compaissum use the 8120 or the 8150 to the even then the AMD will be under or a I3 dual core to your 4100
