Started crunching again (for a while anyway), Have question

Thread Starter
I'm currently crunching the Milkyway@Home projects with two of my GTX470s...

It seems to be taking about 3min 40sec or so per wu…

The last time I looked into Milkyway getting it to work with fermies was sort of a nightmare, much easier now I must say...smile.gif

The question is...

1...is the time for each unit decent?
2...what kind of ppd will this equate to?
3...how much better would my GTX570 be at this?

Thanks

1. Not really - my 5850 @ 910 core will crank one out in about 70s
2. 160 points per WU, so 160 / (3*60 + 40) = 0.72p/s * 60 * 60 * 24 = 62.8k PPD
3. Better, but...

There are better projects out there for nVidia cards, especially if you are after points.

Have a look at DistrRTgen also known as DiRT, PrimeGrid or Collatz for higher point projects.

Unfortunately I don't have any ATI cards, I do realize they are generally speaking far superior to Nvidia for Boincing…

I was speaking more of relative performance within the Nvidia camp...

I did run Collatz conjecture and will again but I figured I wanted to run Milkyway for quite some time so I figured I start with that...

I did have a MSI R6870 TFIII for a while but if I remember correctly it couldent be used, but I have no idea if I'm right about that...

But I really would love to get a couple ATI cards again...

Buy the way +Rep for you GingerJohn

The nvidia cards have their projects that they do better than the AMD cards. Dirt and primegrid are 2 that Nvidia does better than AMD. You are correct about the 6870 and milkyway, it requires double precision and the 6870 doesn't have it.
Check out this thread

I think there are actually more projects that run on nvidia hardware.

+Rep MagicMan (easier to remember).

I'm familiar with that thread...

I use to crunch Collatz Conjecture, GPUGrid, Einstein, and Aqua, but I noticed the latter has been retired apparently...

I'll probable get a couple of ATI cards in a couple months or so, I have plenty of Nvidia cards for folding as of right now.
