OC Dominator GT 2133 mhz RAM 16GB kit

Hi guys the link here is the ram i have

http://www.corsair.com/memory-by-product-family/dominator/dominator-gt-with-dhx-pro-connector-1-5v-16gb-dual-channel-ddr3-memory-kit-cmt16gx3m4x2133c9.html

I have a crosshair v formula with a Phenom II X4 965 at 3.4 ghz and my memory in the bios shows all 16 GB but its only running at 1333 mhz.

My question is how do i get the ram to work at its specified speeds as per the manufacturer ??? in the BIOS do i enter the Latency timings or the SPD timings in the first FOUR options avaliable in setting the ram manually.

will i be able to get upto 2133 mhz with this board and processor ???

I know its meant for intel boards but im sure there is a way to manually set the times. I appreciate any help and thanks in advance.thumb.gif

The highest you can go on the Phenom II chips is around 1866.

OK so how so I achieve 1866 my bios only let's me get up to 1066 for some reason .... do I have to change the multiplier and something else ???? Everything is liquid cooled in my PC so I'm not bothered about temps ....thanks once again thumb.gif

the Memory multi should allow you to go as high as 1866. You can go further, but will need to OC via the FSB.

unfortunately it only goes as high as 1066 for some reason ....... maybe because this ram is for intel boards and not AMD ..... plus i think the phenom II X4 965 only read's upto 1066 mhz .....plus if its running it at 1333 mhz isn't that higher than 1066 ???? thanks biggrin.gif

Your mobo should at least allow 1333 MHZ. You may need to disable "auto" and manually set the RAM if you have not done so? You may however need a BIOS update to OC above the default 1333 MHz. Phenom II RAM frequency.

As far as how high the RAM will likely run: Denebs typically allow 1600-1800 MHz. Thubans typically allow ~1800 MHz. FX's have gone to 2600 MHz.

There is no chance of seeing 2133 MHz. with a Deneb / 965 BE CPU IME.

Bit of a late reply but here goes ^^

To get 2133mhz on your ram you would need to have a bulldozer cpu as they support it and even support up to 2600mhz according to tweaktown, but bulldozers arent too popular, i only have one as i got it for free tongue.gif

Officially BD/FX CPUs only support one DIMM per channel @1866 MHz. but yes many people have been able to run high speed rated RAM at higher frequencies with the FX/BD CPUs than with the Phenom II CPUs.

As far as popularity goes AMD is selling a lot of FX CPUs so I guess it depends on your definition of "popular". The FX/BD CPUs are actually quite popular because they OC well and scale well when OC'd, so there is considerable performance gain from OC'ing the CPU, not the RAM, as the thread below shows. wink.gif
