[Softpedia] The Start Button in Windows 8 Is Gone for Good - Page 27

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS beta 2 "just works" on an old P4 1GB and Geforce 6200 as of the other day. All out of the box, creative sound card, graphics card, Wireless G, even my Wireless Printer was found and able to print almost straight away!

Isn't that basically what I just said. It doesn't just work thats true, it requires more work than windows. People don't want to put in the effort. It would work for 90% of people who just want to browse facebook, email and use a word processor

If someone doesn't want to spend another $180+++ on another version of Windows, who are you to tell them otherwise? It's their money.
It does, 'just work'. Has for a while. There's support for nearly all hardware out there right now. If you can't install it and use it, then that's your own problem. Linux has come a long way from the not 'just work'ing' days.

"Just works" isn't a term that linux comes anywhere close to. "Just works" means EVERYTHING. Software, hardware, everything. Face it, those two things, which are coincidentally the most important things, are VERY hit and miss with linux.

As for caring? I really don't. I just tell it like it is. Like it or lump it.

Regardless still quite off from october, and regardless Os still wont improve. You know IF you learned to read my quote that was not the point of it. Nit picking little gramatical errors dont make windows 8 failing any less real. I dont think youve even read what youve quoted. Asides from the first half sentence.

Either way, Windows 8 is in beta. Can't compare it to a "non-beta" OS like most popular linux distros.
1. I never expereince said "not working" while using linux
2. Windows 8 being in beta I do agree will have drive incompatibilities
3. Other windows OS' have drive incompatibilites which does not mean the OS has become " just doesn't work"

1. Failing at debating is in my terms unable to portray an idea and backing it up with evidence, if youve taken the time to read any post instead of imposing "you fear change; because I said so" belief you can see there are facts and relevant informationg backing my points.

Using virtual machine is an excelent way of experiencing an operating system without the hassle of migrating all your files over. If youve noticed moving over and not liking an operating system will be a headache to bring back to the original. Having it on virtual machine lets me have the gist of the experience without reinstalling windows both times.

*protip 2*
Please read and or back up your arguements with facts during a debate or you're gonna looke like a tool. rolleyes.gif

For the record I should mention I'm one of the people I mentioned that are too lazy to use Linux over windows. Though I would if I didn't need adobe apps or games. I'll probably end up just dealing with windows if an upgrade to 8 becomes mandatory. I'm not going to fight the man by being part of the low percentage of Linux users.

I really don't see people loving the lack of start button though. I don't believe windows phone OS has a majority share so I suspect most people will expect windows to look like all the other windows not like their phone.
