Internet Gateway Speed Throttle

post #1 of 3
Thread Starter
I have to computers set up so that they can share one internet connection

Modem => Comp1 => Comp2

Note: Comp2 is connected to the net via Comp1, NOT directly to the modem

On the internet is very slow, even though we have 24Mbit ADSL2+ internet

When i download a file eg 3D Marks 200X, it reaches speeds of 650+kb/s, but when viewing webpages, it takes forever to load(Took about 30seconds to load the overclock hompage, and i had to try twice ) Also I'm geting high pings in online games, 200+

Im using dsl-302g modem. Its only rated for 8Mbit, but it still should work fine. The firewall is down, and everything else seems to be fine.

Whats the problem?? Why is it so slow!?!?

Thx

I'm assuming this is dls/cable... with ethernet cables for the net. Computers need an IP adress to surf the net... when you have two computers hooked together with out a switch or anything i think they share an IP or something... meaning its not meant to work with out having a seperate connection.

Get a NIC Switch, heres some 4 port switches, you plug the modem into port one and the other computers into 2-5... some good deals from linksys and D-Link

Comp1 and the modem is conected via a usb cable, not a ethernet one.

And does anybody know what range of pings your are supposed to get with 24mbit ADSL?
