Nvidia GTX 680 - Sold Out - Extremely small launch?

So I'm sure there are some in the pipeline, of course. Somewhere

I'm asking has there been any available anywhere since day 2 or day 1 for that matter, depending on when certain OEM's got their variants ready? Some might ask is this considered a shadow launch, and how many cards actually went out the door.

Did the 7970 have supply problems? I know it's generally available all over now. I didn't try to buy one at the time so didn't pay attention to Retailers and if there had sufficient quantities the first week or thereafter.

And what do we consider a successful launch of the 680. Sure the card is highly successful speedwise etc...yadda

Of course advertised "high end" cards are never in outright mass quantities, but this pool seemed shallower than typical....maybe i'm not seeing it right.

I wonder if they only shipped 3K or less 680's (Pure speculation)... I'd hate to be a Nvidia stockholder and be told "yeah we launched and it was successful for the 3000 or less we had available at the next Investor Quarterly conf call..."We only sold 3K total due to those guys at TSMC".

Or did they sell 50,000 cards and everyone who wanted one or more got them. rolleyes.gif

In the end AMD still may have succeeded this round despite faster competition. If a GTX 680 fell in a forest and no one saw it...

Nvidia was having production issues and kepler got pushed back 2 months over it, so I'm assuming that they scraped the bottom of the barrel to even have a launch.

Indeed. I have been trying to snag an EVGA card since release from Amazon with no luck. I checked inventory and we didnt even get 50 EVGA cards for launch. Been out of stock on them since launch.

I have to say that I am not pleased with the GTX 680 since it was only realeased to get some of AMD's sales. I don't feel like the GTX 680 was the performer it was supposed to be and was hyped to be.

Good luck finding one but I would wait for non reference cards to hit the market in the next month.

It doesn't perform as expected because they dropped the GK104 as the 680 rather then the 670Ti. They are waiting for AMD to drop the 7990 so they can pop out the GK100 685 or w/e its going to be. then shortly after a limited release of a 690 just to secure their spot at the top.

Oh no doubt anyone that wanted to purchase the first day likely got one or more. They didn't stay available but for a couple hours or minutes in any one shop. I myself was staring at an shopping cart with 4 680's cards, but decided to check to see if EVGA's were available anywhere, blinked, and they were sold out... forcible removed from my cart when I refreshed.

OT:
Glad I waited in retrospect as I'm having a mid life crisis trying to decide 2P or 4P for my next build. If I go 4P I only want one card of course.

IF you really want one that bad, Amazon has them in stock. But you will be paying 629-649 dollars for them Last time I checked I saw 5 there.

it's really not that Nvidia had a bad supply.
it's all bcuz huang didn't expect HD 7970 to be this much better than thier GTX 580.
so they had to spent time n redesign one inorder to beat them.
