Two words for you - Moore's Law. Hasnt technology reached a point where this is the case, meaning every so often one proc will be outdown by another, regardless of company?

If you go single core get yourself a 3700 san d. They OC great!! There's a lil progy here from sodamtguy (sp?) that will calculate what your processor is compared to to another processor. IE: My 3700 @ 3.024 ghz equals a ~2.5ghzish c2d-o or a stock fx-57 Also the 3700 is CHEAP!!! 100 bucks can't beat that, and as for intel beating amd now I have to agree with you other guys Intel is kicking amd in the latest tech with dual cores. Just my 2 peenies

Yeah def in agreement on this.

My old Intel socket478 s not a patch on my current rig.

Old intel 3.0GHz Prescott superPi 1M = 47 seconds
New Sandy at 2.6GHz 1M = 31 sec

New intel Core 2 Duos are down as low as <20 seconds (when overclocked!)

Theres no such thing as INTEL or AMD being better than eachother.

It all comes down to these things.

1. Price
2. User preference
3. Workstations use.

Intel at the moment have better performing chips yes...However that doesnt make them better IM ANY WAY.

Why go single core?

I would understand it if your budget is limited. I agree that it all comes down to 1) budget, 2) performance, 3) personal preference, 4) brand loyalty. It's up to you which one is more important.

What is your budget?

However, the E6300 is an $180 CPU that can easily overclock. Here is an example of 3.22GHz on air cooling:
http://www.overclock.net/news-overcl...s-monitor.html

Trust me, that kind of set up beats an AMD FX62 at stock speeds!!! And the 3700+ will be left somewhere in the dust at 3.0GHz. (it should run way over 4.0GHz to even stand a chance against a 3.0GHz Core 2 Duo)
