Here's what a 7970 looks like with the Warranty removed:

Someone at the factory must have bought stock in thermal paste:

Some quick shots of how it fits in the case:

Don't think I've shown any pictures with the PSU support bracket in place yet:

Doing some fitting/planning smile.gif

Radiator is right up against the 7970:

And this is one of the main reasons I was originally going to get the GTX 680, it is about an inch shorter and this wouldn't be an issue:

Brings the fans way closer, I think I could get away with one of the slightly slimmer fans and have it completely fit inside the door:

More components on the way!

  1. XSPC EX120 Single 120mm Low Profile Split Fin Radiator
    • This is going to mount under the top panel, above the PSU and behind the DVD
  2. Swiftech MCP35X 12v PWM Controlled Water Pump - Black
    • Mounting it under the GPU/GPUs
  3. Heatkiller Rev 3.0 1155/1156 CPU Liquid Cooling Block - Nickel / Black (14014)
  4. Phobya Balancer 150 Reservoir - Black Nickel (45151)
    • Tight fit, between the PSU and Mobo.
  5. Yate Loon 120mm x 20mm Slim Fan - Medium Speed (D12SM-12C)
    • Mounting two of these to the front of the rad, should fit below the door level
  6. Laser Cut Reusable Radiator Template - Single 120mm
  7. Phobya G1/4 Fillport - Black Nickel 1 $13.99 $13.99

I was originally going to try and buy everything at once, including fittings and hose. However after looking at how expensive fittings are, and how many options I have, I decided to order and mount all the components first. That way I should be able to choose my fittings and routing, get it right on the first try hoepfully. All the fittings will be compression style so I can crank em down and hopefully not worry about them. Once everything is assembled, many of the fittings will not be easily accessible.

Good work and very interesting build.

The thinnest 120 mm fan I'm aware of is a Scythe 12 mm one. They should sell these separately as well, but these come also with, for example, their BIG Shuriken low profile coolers. These are not particularly high performance but if space is an serious issue then they are a lot better than no fan at all.

If it turns out that this 20mm Delta is still too thick that is. Or if the planned top radiator has clearance issues.

Thanks smile.gif

I think the 20mm fan will fit, in the meantime I was considering other options available to me:

IMAG0141.jpg

If I shave down the entire front surface of the fan bracket, I could possibly reduce the frame height to a point it would work. With any luck, the blades would just clear the door panel when closed. In fact, the backside of the fan could be shaved down also, so when installed the frame actually sits down slightly on the bracket. Would be nice to maintain this fans without destroying their performance levels.
